Uncover the flaws in unjust systems, from wrongful convictions to institutional corruption, and why they persist despite the harm caused to innocent people.
The Fox Loses Its Fur But Not Its Tricks: The Faulty System Persists
Across decades and countries, the same pattern emerges. Injustice doesn’t evolve — it repeats. Systems tell a fictional story to preserve their own power: inventing guilt, denying innocence, and silencing those who dare to speak out. From the Scottsboro Boys in 1934 to wrongful convictions in the UK and the Netherlands, these failures are not isolated mistakes. They reveal how deeply the system resists change — and how real people pay the price.
Introduction
The essential question in simple words is:
How can someone be guilty of something they didn’t do?
This question remains unanswered, and it leads us to another disturbing reality:
How is it possible that there are people so deeply corrupted by power and self-interest that they destroy the lives of impeccable individuals — people like Jo Hamilton or the teenage student Liam Allan?
In the case of the Post Office scandal, the answer is not just about individuals — it’s about a whole organisation, driven by what Mr. Henry called “corporate psychopathy” in his Closing Statement. An institution that knowingly destroyed lives, all in the name of self-preservation, profit, and power.
The Truth Uncovered: A Justice System Delayed and Distorted
In his statement, Mr. Beer remarked on the incredibly delayed recognition of truth, acknowledging that it was only after Alan Bates took the bold step of bringing the case to the High Court that the facts were finally forced into the light. Without that crucial action, the truth might never have come to the surface, and this scandal would have remained buried — a miscarriage of justice on an unparalleled scale in British history.
During the inquiry, many individuals were subjected to grilling — and many of those who took the stand were far from truthful. The testimonies were nothing short of appalling, and the extent of the dishonesty was shameful. As Paul Patterson succinctly put it, the individuals responsible for this miscarriage were “shameless”.
The bugs that caused the systematic failures were known from the beginning, yet Gareth Jenkins, despite being called as an expert, deliberately kept this information hidden, contributing to the extended suffering of innocent people.
A Made-Up Story
Injustice often begins with a fictional account—fabricated, distorted, or blindly accepted as fact.
Jo Hamilton was accused of theft. Ricky Jackson lost decades of his life because of a child’s invented story. Brian Banks, (click for more), Liam Allan, and many others were trapped in versions of events that never happened.
What ties these stories together is not just error, but a system willing to believe the unbelievable — and punish without question.
What makes Mr Beer magnificent?

It was Tim’s claiming that sorting out the Horizon scandal was quite tough but hey the class action suit brought by the Subpostmastmasters got it all sorted in the end.
Are you saying by that answer that it needed a group of brave subpostmasters to hold the Post Office to account by bringing in the Post Office before a court and that the Post Office was incapable of doing it itself.

Amanda Burton Post Office Inquiry. She thought it acceptable for Post Office top dogs to get a bonus

Amanda Burton thought it was acceptable for Post Office top dogs to get a bonus for attending the Post Office Inquiry.
These Top Dogs were real nasties towards the subpostmasters and subpostmistresses and it probably proves that the Post Office are giving little credibility to the Inquiry and likely even treating the inquiry with contempt whilst carrying on with their misfeasances, to paraphrase Mr Henry KC
Shocking to say the least

Post Office Inquiry. Henry Staunton rips apart the Brutal Post Office Investigators who put the subpostmasters and sub postmistresses through hell with no compassion at all.
Steve Bradshaw and his co investigators plus the Investigation bosses were the ones who Staunton is referring to.
Staunton also said that the Horizon system was completely and utterly unreliable and that the subpostmasters had to deal with these issues on an ongoing basis. Staunton said he was staggered by that.
The Post Office at all times even when proved wrong, insisted that the great god Horizon was infallible with the message driven home by Paula Vennels.
Asked about compensation and redress for the subpostmasters, Staunton said that he thought the Post Office and the Goverment were dragging their feet.
Just about sums up the pathetic performance of the Goverment and the Post Office with their homage to the great God Horizon. Whilst all the time the totally useless Horizon system was in fact the devils hand maiden!

Stop asking questions. I don’t know anything. Vince Cable grilled by the Post Office Inquiry KC’s and claims to know nothing . Well no suprises there then.
He was grilled, first by Jason Beer KC and then by Sam Stein KC.
It seems that everyone in Government was either totally blind or totally ignoring what was staring them in the face or, more likely, suffering from feigned amnesia.

Paula Vennells was ‘lying’ about Post Office scandal, claims forensic accountant
23 jan 2024
It might have taken a drama to galvanise the response to a crisis – but the public inquiry into the Post Office Horizon scandal is gradually bringing more details to light, as hundreds of victims seek justice for their ruined lives.
The inquiry will be hoping to uncover more details when it examines a series of covert recordings. This programme has obtained a summary of some of the tapes – a meeting in 2013 between Post Office executives and the independent forensic accountants brought in to investigate.

Toby Jones On The Importance of ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’ | The Graham Norton Show
Toby Jones talks about playing Sir Alan Bates in the drama ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’.
A Leopard doesn’t change his spots just because you bring him in from the jungle and try to housebreak him and turn him into a pet. He may learn to sheathe his claws in order to beg a few scraps off the dinner table, and you may teach him to be a beast of burden, but it doesn’t pay to forget that he’ll always be what he was born: a wil animal.
