Obama verleidde Amerika en de rest van de wereld, maar hoe kreeg het kind dat in Hawaï werd geboren uit een Keniaanse moslimvader en een niet-praktiserende Amerikaanse moeder het hoogste ambt? Niets was duidelijk; de leertijd was lang, bezaaid met valkuilen. Er was de zoektocht naar identiteit, fouten, blessures maar ook een ontmoeting. Michelle, het meisje uit het zuiden van Chicago, zal zijn vrouw worden en hem moed en legitimiteit geven

Obama a séduit l’Amérique et le reste du monde mais comment l’enfant né à Hawaï d’un père kenyan musulman et d’une mère américaine non pratiquante a-t-il accédé à la fonction suprême ? Rien ne fut évident ; l’apprentissage fut long, semé d’embûches. Il y a eu la quête d’identité, les erreurs, les blessures mais aussi une rencontre. Aujourd’hui, Laurence Haïm est la seule journaliste de télévision française accréditée à la Maison Blanche suivant au quotidien Barack Obama.
Le 2 juin 2009, elle décroche une interview exclusive de Barack Obama, quelques jours avant sa venue en France.
De mars à octobre 2009, de la Press Room à la pelouse de la Maison Blanche où atterrit l’hélicoptère présidentiel, des briefings du porte-parole de Barack Obama : Robert Gibbs au discours du Caire, de Dresde (Allemagne) à Accra (Ghana), Laurence Haïm nous raconte comment travaille la presse de la Maison Blanche face à une administration qui a promis la plus grande transparence en arrivant au pouvoir.
