Mark 14 New International Version (NIV)

36 “Abba,[a] Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep?

Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?

38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.

40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.

41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

And  with those questions resonating this man was pulled away strapped in the electric chair and executed and it was very tempting to say I cannot do this and then I reflected on how unbearable it would have been had there not been at this effort this witness to this inequality, this injustice.

I think often times we find ourselves in situations that are quite overwhelming, but it is important that we be there, because it is often that those experiences motivate us, inspire us, change us.

Since that time we’ve gotten 115 people off of death row who were wrongly convicted and condemned, seen some major changes and I don’t know that it would have been possible without appreciating the ugliness, the difficulty of the depth of the problems.

So I don’t think we should run or hide from a true and honest accounting of the seriousness of the challenges that the people we serve.

It brings to us, we just have to meet those challenges with an equally committed to overcome and create more justice.

This is Bansi and we must tell you from the beginning–he was rescued, completely healed and he has flourished. The beginning of the video is particularly heart-breaking, and the question that will probably fill your heart and mind as you watch it is simply “Why?” Why would the owners tie this donkey so cruelly? What deranged mind is behind this? To what purpose? Sometimes the answer “Ignorance” is not sufficient. We immediately began the 2 month treatment process for Bansi and he healed beautifully. He also happens to be adorable, innocent, agreeable, quiet. He’s happy now and police arrested and jailed his cruel owner. There are about 600 working donkeys in Udaipur.

There’s a special place in hell for people who harm dogs. I imagine it’s somewhere between mass murderers and all the people who call bagels “baggles”.
