The Germanwings Flight 9525 Crash

Page Description

Learn about the Germanwings Flight 9525 crash, a tragic 2015 incident where a deliberate pilot action led to the loss of all 150 people aboard.

The Germanwings Flight 9525 crash occurred on March 24, 2015, in the French Alps. Here are some key points of the tragedy:

  1. The flight was en route from Barcelona, Spain, to Düsseldorf, Germany, with 150 passengers and crew on board.

  2. The co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, deliberately crashed the plane into the mountainside, killing all aboard.

  3. Lubitz had a history of mental illness and had been declared unfit to fly by a doctor, but he kept this information from his employer.

  4. The cockpit voice recorder revealed that Lubitz had locked the captain out of the cockpit and had set the plane on a descent course.

  5. The crash prompted calls for better mental health screening for pilots and stricter regulations on medical confidentiality.

  6. Germanwings (a subsidiary of Lufthansa) faced criticism for not having more stringent medical screening processes in place, as well as for its response to the tragedy.

  7. The crash was one of the deadliest aviation accidents in European history and led to widespread grief and mourning.

“Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discusses the crash of Germanwings Flight 9525 and the ongoing investigation to figure out what exactly went wrong.

Investigators looking over the wreckage of German Flight 9525 are slowly beginning to piece together exactly what the hell happened. The plane slammed into the French Alps on Tuesday killing every single person onboard and now officials are saying the co-pilot may have done it on purpose. The French government is calling on the FBI to help with the investigation as the search continues to locate the plane’s second black box, its flight data recorder, in hopes that it could help lead them to the final answers.”

On the 24th March 2015, at around 10:41am, Germanwings flight 9525 crashed in the French Alps, resulting in the death of every single person on board. An investigation would reveal that the crash was caused deliberately – but not by sabotage or a terrorist attack. In the case of the Germanwings disaster the crash was caused by the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, who purposefully and calculatedly flew the plane into the side of a mountain.

I tell the true stories behind some of history’s greatest disasters… but without sensationalism or disturbing imagery. Fascinating Horror is all about in-depth research, respectful storytelling, and learning what we can from the mistakes of the past. You might be surprised to discover just how much of today’s world is shaped by long-forgotten disasters from decades gone by.

Any one could irrelevant hide their own personal issues to an employer in order to get hired…but what should be the employers responsibility in order to prevent these type of applicants get hired, specially when it comes to fly an aircraft full with human lives …. These companies…should strictly conduct back ground check and Psychiatric evaluations and demand from the applicants their medical records in order to find out if something doesn’t really match with the standars and work code.
bombud1
i like the way they say “deliberate crash” then later say the cause it still being determined. then say the first officer (not co-pilot, lets appear informed a bit) suffered from depression and had a note from the doctor, then ask the reporter if there was anything in the note that suggests why he might do it. this news story says “we have common sense, no we arent sure… no wait we have common sense, no wait…. we still arent sure.” im also glad the reporter says “in Barcelona…. in Spain” well thank you for not letting me get confused with Barcelona, Thailand.

An audio file from one of two black boxes from the downed Germanwings plane is found to have usable sound. France’s investigators are continuing to look for a second black box.

That is funny. The United Nations knew of the crash before it was to occur. BBC was requested to ask about that information upon the UN representatives’ arrival at the site. It was covered on television. The UN representatives seem to be very angry about their knowing about it before it occurred being made public…..

i search for the audio because i saw from the news that the audio had been disclosed, but why cant i find it on youtube.

8 Deadly intent: the pilots who crash their planes on purpose | 7NEWS Spotlight

14 mei 2021

When we get on board an aircraft, few of us give a second thought to the mental health of the people in the cockpit. The crash of Germanwings Flight 9525 changed that. 150 people, including two Australians, were killed when their Airbus A320 crashed into the French Alps in 2015. Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz had long suffered from depression and had reportedly visited more than a dozen different doctors seeking help before he deliberately downed his plane. In this investigation, Alex Cullen reveals it’s not the first time a suicidal pilot has committed mass murder and asks why lessons weren’t learned from previous deliberate crashes. This story originally aired in 2015.

11 What co-pilot did in final moments of Germanwings flight

Back to menu

Prosecutors revealed that it was the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525, Andreas Lubitz, who deliberately drove the plane into the ground in southern France. The evidence comes from the battered but still readable cockpit voice recorder recovered from among the wreckage of the plane. Mark Phillips reports.

Harry Merchant
They lied. They were screaming for over five minutes. When the pilot tried to get in and began banging on the door this was just over six minutes before it crashed. So, how would the passengers not know something very bad was happening when the pilot and others started furiously trying to open the door with an axe less than a minute from the pilot first knocking on the door. The reason they don’t tell you is because they dont want you to know is because they always push the ‘They died instantly, they didn’t know what was happening’ routine when air crashes are involved. Imagine knowing what was happening on that plane. Now imagine the terror and the screaming from all the passengers for five minutes. It isnt like a ship sinking where even against all odds the mind would tell you that you still have a chance. Sitting screaming in a tin can 30.000 feet up knowing you dont stand a chance, cant even try and survive – there is no worse way to go imho.

crashes may be rare, but when they do happen, hundreds die at once. Terrible.

The bathroom should be accessed via the cockpit

That’s why there must be at least 2 people in the cockpit at all times. When the captain leaves, a flight attendant should be taking his sit until he returns.

He lived just 10km away from me, in a small town called “Montabaur”. It was a mess, after the crash there were news crews all over the place interviewing people and asking them if they know Andreas Lubitz. A colleauge of my mom was his neighbour

We need technology to come up to a point that if the aircraft is in threat of crashing from a psycho pilot, the autopilot gives control to a ground based pilot who is on standby for such events. They should be able to completely lock him out of controlling the plane while ground based pilots fly it.
Patrick
It is so tragic that the rest of the world will always identify the name of Lubitz with Flight 9525 and his victims have to be looked up to be in to memory.
Sarah Zagone
I heard it on the news one on T.V I thought the co-pilot can’t lock the captain out of the cockpit but I was wrong.

Davide Zaccaretti
Just one question… why programming the descent instead of pushing the bar to be quicker? if his intention was to crash why not doing that as fast as possible?
D Kortman
Lmao the cockpit is like a 777 or 757? And the co pilot sits in the left seat? Lmao. Come one CBS…

Well, few weeks ago i saw a Tv documentary about the first flight of the A380. The pilots were wearing parachutes and the plane had a trap door in its floor so that the crew could bail out of the plane in an emergency. So i am thinking since long time that planes could have an emergency hatch in the floor. Yeah, somebody could say that people is not trained to jump out of a plane, i reply that they will do if the other option is the sure death; some training could be offered during the taxing time, as are offered instructions about how to fasten seat belts, how to inflate life vest, how to wear the oxygen mask and how to find the position of the emergency exits. Parachute could be hidden inside the seats of the passengers. In three minutes the plane could be completely evacuated
Arch Stanton
Crew Resource Management should never allow only one person to be on the flight deck at a time, in case they’re a suicidal mental case like Lubitz. there should always be 2 or more pilots to keep each other in check and prevent shenanigans
Maximus H

27 only and already a 737 copilot, he future was very bright.

Pilots should receive an encrypted nfc chip that is paired to a fingerprint sensor to unlock the door from the outside. The door should be locked from the inside regardless. RIP to the victims.

Can’t their be a toilet in the cockpit?
Aviation 21
What Would happend if the Captain did not walk to the toilet want the Co-Pilot crashed when they fly over the French Alps? Because i heard before the Captain and the Co-Pilot walks to the plane to start up the toilet on the Barcelona Airport was not in use.
luckybestwash
This is such a terrible report. Nothing about the Euros and their stupid one man cockpit rules that caused this calamity.

I wish planes had an option where in case of an emergency like a pilot gone rogue, hijacking or if the pilots are down with hypoxia, the ground station could take control of the aircraft over riding the cockpit & land it to safety. BUT it also poses the risk of hackers being able to gain access to airliners & cause disasters which is dangerous!

Airbus shouldn’t have released the cockpit door procedures online. From different places online, I have figured out how to get into the cockpit of an airbus- if i can, so can terrorists

People a living their lives without a purpose, and that brings many maniacs to a self destruction state of mind to make history to their names as the only purpose they find for their lives. A life without a noble purpose, is like a car running at full throttle a night without headlights.
Kory Looper
Do pilots not go through psychological tests as well? I know it wouldn’t prevent 100% of problems but I feel like an understanding company that encourages openess and is willing to pay for time off if needed would be a good thing. Everyone says pilots are under an extreme amount of stress to stay on schedule and fly in less than ideal circumstances etc. I wonder what an understanding company and psychological tests would have done.

that case isn’t that clear and it’s not proven that it happened like this.

It was suicide & homicide. But the co-pilot didn’t act out of animosity with the passengers and crew. These poor souls were reckoned as collateral damage.

It is believed that Lubitz had depression and his doctors said don’t fly jets but he did anyway

Investigate whether the co pilot asked his company for a raise, or for a promotion to Captain and was flately denied….that could be one reason he deliberately crashed the plane to get even.

Crazy West. Too many contradictions…

So if the terrorists wanted to hijack a plane all they got to do is wait until the Pilot or co-pilot need to take a dump. They should have their own bathroom for cockpit only
Bryant White
I’m guessing pilots causing crashes like this is pretty uncommon compared to a terrorist hijacking a plane. Because of this airlines keep this methods of locking a door and just take the risk of a pilot causing the crash.
