“Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump still believes the “Central Park Five,” a group of black and Hispanic men who were convicted but later exonerated in the 1989 rape of a female jogger in New York City’s Central Park, are guilty, he told CNN this week. The news comes more than a decade after the men were cleared by DNA evidence and a confession by the actual culprit about his role in the crime.

“They admitted they were guilty,” Trump told CNN’s Miguel Marquez. “The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous. And the woman, so badly injured, will never be the same.”

Trump’s statement underscores a fundamental disregard for the criminal justice system. While the five individuals accused in the case did at one point confess to crimes related to the rape of then-28-year-old Trisha Meili ― though never actually admitting to rape ― they all later retracted their statements to police. The suspects, then juveniles, claimed that during hours-long interrogations, police lied, intimidated and ultimately coerced them into falsely confessing to crimes they never committed.”*

Powerful billionaires suspected of money laundering and fraud, and of having contacts in Moscow and with the mafia. What do these relationships say about Trump and why does he deny them? Will Donald Trump go down due to his dubious ties to the former Soviet Union? The president seems to be getting in deeper and deeper. Special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who is investigating if Trump colluded with Russia in order to win the elections, is also digging into Trump’s past as a business man. In that past, one of Donald Trump’s business partners plays a crucial role, Felix Sater. A convicted felon who has ties with the Russian mafia. Last May, Zembla disclosed how an American real estate company, run by Sater, used Dutch mailbox companies within a network, which has been suspected of laundering money. Allegedly $1.5 million dollars had been diverted. Donald Trump developed hotels and apartment complexes with this suspicious company.

In the last few months ZEMBLA received indications of a greater fraud. A billion dollar fraud. And here Sater, Trump’s questionable business partner, shows up, as well. The money trail leads to Kazakhstan, to real estate projects in New York and again to the Netherlands. ZEMBLA investigates: How compromising is this case for the current president of America?

ZEMBLA investigates the story of Sergei Magnitsky: a Russian lawyer who died in prison after his testimony about the largest Russian tax fraud in history. Police officers and employees of the Russian tax authorities collaborated with a criminal gang to steal 230 million dollars from the Russian tax payers.

Magnitsky became a symbol for Russian human rights atrocities. Bill Browder, Magnitsky’s client, began a worldwide campaign to punish the fraudsters and murderers. Several countries imposed sanctions which led to a furious reaction by the Kremlin. But other countries refuse to take a harsh stance towards Putin’s kleptocracy. ZEMBLA shows the Dutch government’s unwillingness to impose Magnitsky- sanctions and The Hague’s appeasement of Putin.

Our president is mentally ill, and until we recognize that, acknowledge that, and begin a national conversation about it there can be no solution.

Donald Trump lies, he continuously contradictions himself, and his erratic behavior are all symptoms of his severe mental illness.

Many of America‘s mental health professionals have recognized this, but a serious discussion of the president’s mental illness has not yet moved out of the realm of mental health professionals and into our mainstream discussions.
