Project 2025 has become one of the biggest talking points in the US presidential election. Kamala Harris and the Democrats are using it to attack Donald Trump – and he is trying to distance himself from it.
But what does it actually say – and how similar is it to Trump’s agenda? Sky’s US correspondent Mark Stone explains.
History of Donald Trump

Donald Trump, as a prominent figure in politics and business, has several key points that characterize his career and public image:
Business Empire: Trump built his reputation as a real estate magnate and businessman, with ventures spanning various industries including real estate development, hospitality, entertainment, and branding.
The Trump Organization: He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization, a conglomerate that manages his business ventures and investments worldwide.
Reality Television: Trump gained widespread fame as the host of the reality TV show “The Apprentice,” where he became known for his catchphrase, “You’re fired!” The show ran from 2004 to 2017.
Political Career: Trump entered politics with his presidential campaign in 2015, running as a Republican candidate. He won the 2016 presidential election, defeating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States.
Political Policies: As president, Trump pursued policies such as tax cuts, deregulation, renegotiation of trade deals, and a strict stance on immigration. He also appointed several conservative judges to federal courts, including three Supreme Court justices.
Controversies: Trump’s presidency was marked by numerous controversies, including his provocative rhetoric, conflicts of interest related to his business dealings, allegations of collusion with Russia during the 2016 election, and impeachments.
Foreign Policy: Trump pursued an “America First” foreign policy agenda, which included renegotiating trade agreements, withdrawing from international agreements like the Paris Climate Accord and the Iran nuclear deal, and pursuing diplomacy with North Korea.
Social Media Presence: Trump was known for his prolific and often controversial use of social media platforms, particularly Twitter, where he communicated directly with his supporters and critics alike.
2020 Presidential Election and Aftermath: Trump ran for re-election in 2020 but lost to Democratic candidate Joe Biden. He refused to concede the election and made baseless claims of widespread voter fraud, leading to the storming of the Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021. He was impeached for incitement of insurrection, making him the only U.S. president to be impeached twice.
Legacy and Impact: Trump’s presidency polarized the nation, with supporters praising his economic policies and outsider status, while critics condemned his divisive rhetoric and handling of issues such as immigration and the COVID-19 pandemic. His impact on American politics and society continues to be debated and analyzed.
