11 Prince Andrew: Virginia Giuffre’s attorney on the case against the Duke – BBC News
11 aug. 2021
As Virginia Giuffre – who claims Prince Andrew sexually abused her when she was 17 years-old – files a civil case against the Duke, Newsnight interviews Ms Giuffre’s attorney, David Boies.
A US woman who alleges she was brought to the UK aged 17 to have sex with the Duke of York has filed a civil case in New York claiming he abused her.
Virginia Giuffre, who was an accuser of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claims she was sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew in London and New York.
A spokeswoman for Prince Andrew, 61, said there was “no comment” on the case, which was filed under New York’s Child Victims Act.
He has consistently denied the claims.
The case alleges the prince sexually abused Ms Giuffre – then known as Virginia Roberts – at the London home of Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and at Epstein’s homes in Manhattan and Little St James in the US Virgin Islands.
It claims the prince engaged in sexual acts without her consent, knowing how old she was and “that she was a sex-trafficking victim”.
For Newsnight, the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire interviews Virginia Giuffre’s attorney, David Boies.

23 Legal analyst on Epstein accuser suing Prince Andrew.
15 aug. 2021
(10 Aug 2021) One of Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime accusers launched legal action in the US against the UK’s Prince Andrew on Monday, taking accusations that she has repeatedly publicly lodged against him, including that he sexually assaulted her when she was 17, to a formal venue.
Lawyers for Virginia Giuffre filed the lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, where Epstein was charged criminally with sex trafficking a month before he killed himself at age 66 in August 2019 in an adjacent federal jail where he was ordered to await trial.
Albert D’Aquino, a lawyer in New York whose firm has dealt with many cases under the Child Victims Act, said the next stage in the process would be for Giuffre’s lawyers to serve Prince Andrew with the complaint.
“If he doesn’t answer the lawsuit, the plaintiff’s lawyers would probably move pretty aggressively to demonstrate to the court that he has been properly served under The Hague Convention and that the time allowed for him to submit an answer to the complaint has expired”, D’Aquino said.
Giuffre has repeatedly made her allegations against Epstein, his onetime girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, and Andrew, but the lawsuit was the first time she has directly confronted Andrew in such a formal setting.
It steps up public relations pressure on the prince, even if he remains beyond the reach of the courts.
D’Aquino said the prince would need to weigh up a number of outcomes when deciding how to respond, adding that “it’s probably a question that is going to depend on more on how public opinion would be viewed of that decision than legally what it would mean to him,” D’Aquino said.
According to the lawsuit, which sought unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, the prince abused Giuffre on multiple occasions when she was under the age of 18.
In late 2019, Prince Andrew told BBC Newsnight that he never had sex with Giuffre.
He said he has “no recollection” of ever meeting her and told an interviewer there are “a number of things that are wrong” about Giuffre’s account, which alleges the encounter occurred in 2001.
“I can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened,” Andrew said.
The interview was widely panned by critics who said Andrew seemed insensitive to Epstein’s victims.
Afterward, the prince quit royal duties.

26 Prince Andrew’s hand ‘has been forced’ amid sexual assault lawsuit
22 sep. 2021
The Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers says it seems Prince Andrew’s “hand has been forced” as the Duke of York’s lawyers are officially served with legal papers.
The legal papers have been served in a sex abuse case launched by Australian Virginia Giuffre, who claims Prince Andrew sexually assaulted her three times in 2001.
“The Duke of York has essentially been playing cat and mouse with the legal representation of Virginia Giuffre,” Mr Myers told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“It’s been a complete wall of silence from the Duke, and certainly my understanding of the last couple of weeks is that Prince Andrew’s inner circle has been really putting pressure on him to dump his legal team and to have a new tact.
“But it seems as though his hand has been forced, and he will have to pursue some sort of defence now.”
26 Prince Andrew served sexual assault lawsuit in United States
21 sep. 2021
Prince Andrew has been served with legal papers in the United States. Virginia Giuffre alleges the Duke of York sexually assaulted her when she was 17 and is seeking damages through a civil case in New York.
Prince Andrew denies the allegations.
The Duke’s legal team have previously disputed whether he had been officially notified about the case.
I spoke to Adam Klasfeld – an American journalist who has been following the case. I began by asking him: how are Prince Andrew’s tactics being viewed over there?
