20 jun 2014

“Poisoned” — a documentary about the poisoning of political opponents by Russia. Focuses on specific cases of politically motivated assassinations by poisonings including the attempted murder of Victor Yuschenko, the candidate and eventual President of Ukraine using the deadly Dioxin. Unfortunately, Russia has not stopped this activity and its “Lab X” is still in operation…

Originally created for the UK by FremantleMedia’s production company talkbackTHAMES, “Poisoned” aired on Sky One in April 2005. This documentary was made before the well-publicized poisoning by Russia of Alexander Litvinenko in 2006.

Alexander Litvinenko, a former officer of the Russian secret service, died in London in 2006 from poisoning by radioactive polonium. This film reveals for the first time the remarkable details of the Scotland Yard investigation into Alexander Litvinenko’s murder by Russian agents, and how he helped the police on his deathbed. Combining first hand testimony from key witnesses, with first class dramatisation of key events and never-before-seen archive, this film shows how the Russian Secret Service so nearly got away with murder, and demonstrates the ramifications that are still being played out today.

The Federal Penitentiary Service said in a statement that Navalny felt unwell after a walk on Friday and lost consciousness. An ambulance arrived to try to rehabilitate him, but he died.

Russia’s most significant opposition leader for the past decade, Alexei Navalny, has died in an Arctic Circle jail, the prison service said.

Seen as President Vladimir Putin’s most vociferous critic, Navalny was serving a 19-year jail term on charges widely considered politically motivated.

He was moved to one of Russia’s toughest penal colonies late last year.

The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said Navalny had “felt unwell” after a walk on Friday.

“The emergency doctors declared the prisoner dead. Cause of death is being established.”

Navalny, 47, was last seen only a day ago, looking well and laughing during a court hearing via video link.

Within minutes of Navalny’s death being announced by the prison service, the international community hailed the courage of Vladimir Putin’s biggest domestic adversary.
