How Saddam Hussein Came To Dominate Iraq | Iraq Documentary

Iraq in the 20th century encapsulates the history of much of the Middle East. Imperialism, oil, nationalism, political turmoil, modernisation, and even dictatorship. This issue was exacerbated by Saddam Hussein as he set up a tyrannical regime which served himself above his own citizens. This was very different from the role he played in the 1970s as Vice President, where under his stewardship Iraqi society made major advancements, both socially and materially. But from the 1980s onwards, the authoritarian nature of his rule poisoned much of the previous progress. Whilst Saddam’s regime was exceptional in its brutality and oppression, it was nonetheless a continuation of political turmoil that the country experienced ever since the 1920s.

4 – I knew Saddam-Part 2

31 jul. 2007

A profile of the life of Saddam Hussein, as told by the people who knew him. Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, was executed on December 30, 2006. His death, like his life, was filled with controversy. In the 1980’s he formed an alliance of sorts with the US and with their support and encouragement, instigated a war with Iran.

But that alliance was short lived and in 1990, after Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait, his powerful American friends deserted and turned against him.

The US launched attacks against him, which over the course of 15 years and two wars, led to his downfall and the destruction of Iraq.

2 aug 2023

Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq from 1979 to 2003. During his reign he projected an image of himself as Iraq’s most influential leader and a courageous modernizer, but at the same time his repressive regime killed thousands of people. Saddam was overthrown in April 2003 following the US invasion of Iraq and executed for crimes against humanity in 2006. But more than a decade after his death, Saddam’s legacy remains a divisive issue. The instability in Iraq, caused in part by the war, means that some Iraqis yearn to be safe from a tyrannical regime, while others cannot forget the extreme brutality it has unleashed on the Iraqi people.

In today’s video we will tell you about The unspeakable things Saddam Hussein did during his reign

Saddam Hussein, Saddam Hussein Iraq, Saddam Hussein (Political)

It’s hard to believe, but there was a time when Saddam Hussein was popular with a lot of people in Iraq. He came to power in the 1970s as the “man behind the throne” of Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, the fourth president of Iraq, and in 1979, pushed an aging al-Bakr out of office and became president himself. Hussein began spending millions of dollars on infrastructure and education. He nationalized Iraq’s oil production, which did not please many people outside the country, but gained himself and his country immense wealth. Hussein’s vision for Iraq was of a secular Arab republic which included Syria, with whom he was allied for a time, and to achieve his goals, he was willing to do anything – spend money – and kill or punish millions of people.

Welcome to History on Fleek! Today we’ll be telling you about the incredibly vicious dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein.

In today’s video we look at The Unspeakable Things Saddam Hussein Did During His Reign…Keep watching to see Saddam Hussein, Saddam Hussein Iraq and Saddam Hussein (Political).
