At 12:54am on June 14, 2017, a small fire started in a flat in
Grenfell Tower in London. Thirteen minutes later, it was on the roof.

The cladding installed on the tower’s exterior during a recent
refurbishment had been fire tested before installation. It had failed
the test. The manufacturer knew. The cladding was installed anyway.

A six-year public inquiry found that three companies acted dishonestly
in how they represented their products’ fire performance. It found the
deaths of 72 people were the foreseeable consequence of decisions made
by identifiable companies. It used the word “dishonest.”

The residents of Grenfell Tower had warned about fire safety in writing
eight months before the fire. The organisation managing the building
threatened to sue them for doing so.

Choosing fire-safe cladding instead of the version installed would have
cost an additional £5,000. The council had £270 million in reserves.

Seven years later. Zero criminal charges.

Whoever the idiot is that signed off that cladding doesn’t have to be fireproof should be in prison. That is just the stupidest person who should’ve been fired from their job and never be allowed to work on any highrise again. That person or people that signed off on that have committed murder in my eyes. The people that died in those fires would most likely be alive today. Seeing that contract and how the cladding didn’t have to be fireproof made me mad so damn fast. What’s crazy is that, those fires should’ve taught the engineers that they need to make fireproof cladding but nope cause then Grenfell happened and killed way more then 72 people. Last time I checked the real number is over 200 people missing. Mainstream media loves to lie to the public and they lie to us all the time. Also that is the worst thing to tell the people to stay in their flat ( apartment ). I guess the Architects and/or Engineer’s didn’t learn from the fires in the previous building’s cause they okayed the new cladding on Grenfell Tower.

I watched the fire live on TV by accident as I was up late..it was bloody obvious that everybody needed to be immediately evacuated and that the management of that was a traumatic long drawn out death to the 72. the moron who was in charge of LFB at the time may not have started the fire but ANY idiot should have ordered an immediate evacuation before the smoke and toxic fumes made that impossible. But what happened to fire safety sign offs of the refurb. The greed the incompetence Thatcher deregulation of building control , lack of employing the many skilled people who would want to work in the sector, to safe money and make more profit for the top. We all know the council and TMO put this Roman Candle situation in place but the Govt let them and sending in the Trumpton Fire Brigade wouldnt have been any less effective than LFB .
There was at least thirty minutes that could have made evacuation possible preferably from highest floors downwards on the side it started. The relatives and neighbours of the residents were screaming shouting pleading with the police to let them get their relatives out or get somebody to do so. The poor folk told to stay out tried in vain to wave and shout for help and even leave in some cases in vain. It was something I will never forget for the rest of my life. Communities have been devasted by Thatcher policies and this is the whole culture of cynical neo con policy effects in a single night of torture and death. The rest of us have the life of 1000 cuts. Under employed yet highly skilled , homeless yet willing to self build. Community spirited but unable to live where we are born. Whilst folk a million homes are in deficit in Scotland where 66% of people used live in social housing until it was sold off to often private landlords who have connection to the councils many people in the south of England ..though not in Grenfell, have enough money to buy second and third homes never mind buy to let portfolios. It is a massive imbalance that also makes second class citizens of those who rent. The private renters put up with insecurity of tenure and the public housing tenants put up with harassment intimidation arbitrarily made up rules like No bicycles no veg garden etc etc.poor or non exitant repairs, mould and damp and cramped living. and in the case of Grenfell Tower the most unimaginable horror, though I didn’t need to imagine it because I watched it live on TV. Homes should be a right not for speculative investment and exploitation of debt based economy to make other people homeless or dead.

Retired Court of Appeal judge Sir Martin Moore-Bick has been chosen to lead the public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire, the PM has said.
Theresa May confirmed the appointment of Sir Martin, saying “no stone will be left unturned” by the inquiry.
Sir Martin, 70, promised “a vigorous inquiry that gets to the truth” and said he understood the “desire of local people for justice”.
Police said 80 people are now presumed dead after the disaster, on 14 June.
But they warned the final death toll will not be known until at least the end of the year.

A row has broken out over the Grenfell Tower inquiry – just a few hours after a retired judge was appointed to lead it. Some survivors say they don’t think Sir Martin Moore-Bick is the right man for the job.

Others feel his investigation won’t be comprehensive enough. On that – Sir Martin agrees – saying he’s doubtful it will be as wide-ranging as they’d hoped. But the Prime Minister says – ‘no stone will be left unturned’.

What does justice look like, when so many lives have been lost, countless others changed forever?


Accountability is key – from a government so in thrall to deregulation, questions around safety of life were ignored, to “systematically dishonest” companies, who knew how dangerous their products were, but sold them anyway.

A local authority which, having failed to keep its residents safe, couldn’t even treat survivors with basic human decency.

The report confirms what the people of Grenfell said they’ve always known – they were second class citizens in the richest borough in the country. The indifference and disregard towards them – quite simply fatal.

Consider this small detail – the one fire assessor in charge of Grenfell (and hundreds more properties) was a man who simply drifted into the role, the inquiry said. Many of the qualifications he claimed were simply “made up”.

So will the people of Grenfell get the justice they want?
