Tuam Ireland’s Shame Documentary – Blog

After reading through the causes of death, if these children had died while in the care of private individuals (meaning NOT the Nuns) there would have been an inquest. Many of those diseases could have been prevented with proper sanitation protocol. The ones listed that died of septicemia from bed sores (a lot listed. Especially on the head which is called Crib Cap now days) is insane. That is easily prevented or cured with proper hygiene and medication.

This is one of the reasons I have absolutely no time for organised religion. It is dangerous and IMO does more harm than good. I have met a few survivors of the industrial schools and what they endured was absolutely horrendous. No child should have to go through what they did. It certainly left a mark on them. I’ve also seen The Magdalene Sisters and I found it very difficult to watch but it was a real eye opener.

To call this “Ireland’s Shame” implies that all of Ireland is RC. It is not. This is a Catholic shame (worldwide).

Let me say this: I was born in Northern Ireland and was born: ‘out of wedlock’ in the 1950’s. if I’d been born In Eire, it is possible I could have been buried in this plot of land. A religion that calls itself Christian and has this as it’s legacy, can it really hold it’s head up today and really hope to be recognised as such. Shame does not describe it properly.

This is heartbreaking…. these were highly vulnerable people who needed care, protection, and help …….nothing can condone what happened. here when love died.

What hell did my Mum and her birth mother endure? I know the day she was collected from Tuam at the age of 6, she was covered in bruising that could only been seen once the rags that she wore were removed. What about her birth mother Margaret Flaherty? Did she have her child ripped from her arms? So many lies.

I have never-ever seen a good-and-honest book or documentary about the real Irish history, or what the British really did to the Irish. We’ve all been taught the horror’s of the African slave trade. It’s in all the school books and in plenty of Hollywood movies. But for some reason the largest group of slaves in the British Colonies in the 17th Century doesn’t get mentioned at all: the Irish. The Irish Slave Trade – The Forgotten “White” Slaves – They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands and included men, women, and even the youngest of children. Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment. They were burned alive and had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives. During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers. None of the Irish victims ever made it back to their homeland to describe their ordeal. These are the lost slaves; the ones that time and biased history books and documentaries conveniently forgot.

Uhh what many people do not consider is that these children more than likely were still births or died from diseases. In the 1920s and 1930s, child deaths were EXTREMELY common. Babies died from very common things that can be treated now with the invention of anti-biotics. It was an epidemic. You must use logic. This home ran from 1925 to 1961. That can explain so much burials. The real shame is that the graves were unmarked and disrespected just because they were born out of wedlock.

If u forgave the British who tortured u for many years u will forgive the Catholic which has educated u all to know ur rights. Sometimes I don’t believe in the way Irish people talk of these abuses. Church met good for all people.

Its happens all over the world. Happened in Canada. Happened in the USA. Happens all over. Its a shame when the world thinks children are something less that human and can be just thrown away like rubbish.

Very odd ceremony. Doesn’t seem to be for the children but to help overcome guilt for adults

My old Uncle Ginner who was in such a place until me Great Grandma & her Brother bust into the Nunnery & took them from those so called brides of God! Me old Grandma told me Granny that she wanted to take all the Babies home if she could! & it seems that there’s no end to this & where are those who are answerable for this evil. My Uncle was my real Dad, & wouldn’t of had him in my life if this institutions of evil weren’t challenged.

The Roman Catholic Church is finally going down, and none too soon. It is especially gratifying to see the Irish finally take back their country from the repressive influence the Vatican. Monotheism is the worst thing that ever happened to Western Civilization.~~~~~Gore Vidal

the RC church is so wealthy so how come the babies were malnourished ?

This is already sad enough. Is the recorder music included to make us weep? It makes me very sad on top of sad.

i do not in any way condone the actions of the catholic church and its treatment of women and children. However i also do not think things are any better today with the amount of babies who are aborted everyday in this country and the children who are being raised in poverty ,in broken homes, and by women who do not want them
Derrick Bailey
Don’t forget the British sent them here

+Michael Cullinane I do believe it was wrong to bury them in unmarked graves and it was due to religion. However, that does not mean they are guilty of neglect or murder and thats a big jump of a claim the media are making. This home ran from 1925 to 1961. It also took in thousands of women over that time period. Therefore it is very possible hundreds of babies did naturally die. Burying them in unmarked graves is their only wrong act. The rest is to be proven.

Hey Christians, you trying to tell me this is better than birth control? Or abortion?
