What a gentleman. What a man of faith. What a hero.

This book was amazing & it was inspirational despite the anguish Mr. Hinton he went through. He fought for 30 years to prove he was innocent. I can not imagine how he felt trying to convince people that you didn’t do something you being convicted of. Lester, thank you for showing us that family does not always have to be blood, your friendship, love, support and loyalty is something to be admired. Your faith, fight, strength and perseverance through the most difficult times is a blessing and reminder of humanity.

I wish you nothing but blessings and happiness and love from Ireland Anthony. I’ve just read your book and as an avid book worm your story is one of the most saddest and inspirational and forgiving stories that have ever read. One thing kept popping out at me and this was the cruelty of the Alabama justice system—it is atrocious. In fact in my mind the judge and prosecutor both should be jailed for thirty years on death row as they are despicable and evil people who purported to be professional—even when they knew you were innocent they still carried on trying to put you to death. These are vile people and a disgrace to decent lawmakers everywhere. I don’t know how you found it in yourself to forgive them as they don’t deserve it. Anyway—God Bless to you Anthony and to your friend Lester—what a guy.

His GPS story breaks my heart. He says it with a smile, but dang it really puts things into perspective. 30years was wrongly taken from this man.

I agree with Oprah… I just really liked this man as I was reading this book! I am so inspired by his story and wish him the very best for the rest of his life. I wish there was something I could do for him… and I really wish the men who did this to him were in prison because that is where they belong. Much love to you Mr. Hinton, or Ray. 🙂
P J
I’m reading his book now. Thanks Oprah for adding this book to your book club.

Mr. Hinton, thank you so much for writing this book. You helped to show me the truth!

Forgiveness and grace is over-rated. Those men responsible for this man’s incarceration should be jailed.

We need people to be more angry about these injustices. Simply forgiving the system, and letting people who commit these crimes go unpunished and unaccountable is why the injustices continue, generation after generation. Forgiveness is not the answer.
Jermaine Edwards
They love to concentrate on the fact he has no bitterness which I’m sure understates what it took this strong man to get their.
bunchwithKaratsi
Indeed spirit of Mandela. Go Mr Hinton..
tobe enweluzor
Mr Ray Hinton is a big soul, that’s why he has no bitterness.
M Soiseth
God bless Anthony Ray Hinton. Shame, shame on the judicial system that overlooked clear evidence that he was innocent. Some of them should be sent to prison.
Forever Changing with Ramonda Moore-Brown
A determined lawyer & the wrong people on a jury can make a guilty man innocent or a innocent man guilty! It’s unfortunately become the American justice system’s new norm. 😭😭😭

Was blessed to meet Anthony at the Sonoma Valley Authors Festival Student Day at Sonoma Valley HIgh School. Life changing experience. Nothing but love! <3 <3 <3

I really can’t afford to send money, but I’m ordering his book today! I guess just mercy is next. I can relate to the GPS story. I had just picked up my father in-laws cremains & decided to swing by my old job to visit some former employees & co-workers. I had Grandad sitting in the front seat next to me, but decided to put him in the trunk for safekeeping. My old job was not in a low crime area & windows are broken several times each week for loose change! Fast forward to the cafeteria & several of the old gang came down for a visit. One of them, I’ll call her Nella who is from India & was 24 at the time. I said I just got back from picking up grandads remains & put him in the trunk. She had this horrified look on her face & was really a bit pale. Poor kid! Why did you put him in the trunk? She had a vision of my late father in-law sitting in the front seat next to me. I told her that he’d been cremated & his remains were in a box. Then she had another horrified look on her face…. how did you get him into such a small box? We all had a hysterical laugh & folks were staring at us. Sorry, it’s not really relevant, but when he described the lady in the box, I thought of Nella.

ODB brought me here, God Bless this man of faith.

Injustice is written in the book of Human suffering . To all those that have committed a horrific injustice against any human being or animal, just know that God has the last word.

ITS SAD WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS BROTHER AND THE PITIFUL, WORTHLESS, RACIST SYSTEM REFUSES TO FINANCIALLY COMPENSATE HIM, THIS IS WHY THE UPCOMING GENERATION NEEDS TO BE EDUCATED, THIS IS ONE WAY TO EXPOSE HATE AND STUPIDITY, HOW CAN PEOPLE LIVE WITH THEMSELVES.

Please note that gentleman anchor laughs by coughing into his hand and smiles at 2:27. This is a peculiar response at this point in the story.
Zakia Boone
Why did you all cut him off at the end!! Let the man speak. I didn’t get to hear the part after “if you don’t have a decent defense.”

Isaiah 42:22 – “But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.”

I heard this man didn’t recieve anything in compensation… Has anyone started a collection for him? It won’t undo his time..but cases like this makes me wanna give a few dollars, and If many compassionate people would do that we would be better than the system.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAY JUNE 1ST. THE SCRIPTURES of the East are tailored for this age of quarrel & hypocrisy. “Alas, how painful it is that irreligion is being introduced into an assembly where religion should be maintained. Indeed, those in charge of maintaining the religious principles are needlessly punishing a sinless, unpunishable person. Purport The Viṣṇudūtas accused the Yamadūtas of violating the religious principles by attempting to drag Ajāmila to Yamarāja for punishment. Yamarāja is the officer appointed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead to judge religious and irreligious principles and to punish people who are irreligious. However, if completely sinless people are punished, the entire assembly of Yamarāja is contaminated. This principle applies not only in the assembly of Yamarāja, but throughout human society also. In human society, properly maintaining religious principles is the duty of the king’s court or the government. Unfortunately, in this yuga, Kali-yuga, the religious principles are tampered with, and the government cannot properly judge who is to be punished and who is not. It is said that in the Kali-yuga if one cannot spend money in court, one cannot get justice. Indeed, in courts of justice it is often found that magistrates are bribed for favorable judgments. Sometimes religious men who preach the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement for the benefit of the entire populace are arrested and harassed by the police and courts. The Viṣṇudūtas, who are Vaiṣṇavas, lamented for these very regrettable facts. Because of their spiritual compassion for all the fallen souls, Vaiṣṇavas go out to preach according to the standard method of all religious principles, but unfortunately, because of the influence of Kali-yuga, Vaiṣṇavas who have dedicated their lives to preaching the glories of the Lord are sometimes harassed and punished by courts on false charges of disturbing the peace.”

Oh please Oprah. Mandela sold out that’s why he had no anger and bitterness. Regular black people who were wrongly convicted and incarcerated just don’t focus on anger and bitterness, if they are lucky. It’s mind over matter. They don’t want to give anymore of themselves to those hateful beings that wrongfully put them in prison for so long.
Amy Rose
Evil people we NOT go scot free. When sudden destruction come on evil people, no one will understand but the cry of the oppressed will not go unnoticed b4 our maker. 🙁
