Jeffrey Epstein & JPMorgan: How the Largest U.S. Bank Enabled the Sexual Predator’s Crimes

Amid growing pressure for the Trump administration to release the full Jeffrey Epstein files, a New York Times investigation reveals how the country’s largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, enabled Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation and profited from its ties to him. The exposé is based on more than 13,000 pages of legal and financial records. The Times reports JPMorgan processed more than 4,700 transactions for Epstein totaling more than $1.1 billion, including payments to some of the women who were sexually trafficked. The bank “arranged for Epstein to be able to pay those victims, both in the U.S. and in Eastern European countries and in Russia,” says David Enrich, deputy investigations editor for The New York Times. Epstein “operated in large part because he had unfettered access to the global financial system. And for many years, it was JPMorgan that was providing him with that access.”

As the Trump administration is expected to release investigative files related to Jeffrey Epstein later this week, a recent New York Times investigation delves into one of the biggest mysteries about the deceased sexual predator: how the college dropout with no financial training rose through the world of finance and amassed his wealth, which enabled his abuse and insulated him from scrutiny for decades.

David Enrich, deputy investigations editor at The New York Times and lead author of the report, headlined “Scams, Schemes, Ruthless Cons: The Untold Story of How Jeffrey Epstein Got Rich,” says Epstein’s early success in business was due to a series of lucky breaks, lies and scams that nevertheless convinced sophisticated investors and business titans to give him their money.

“What surprised me the most was just how pedestrian some of his scams were,” says Enrich. “He was just grabbing people’s money and running with it.”

Anand Giridharadas on the Elite Network Around Epstein

While much of the recent interest in Jeffrey Epstein has focused on the late sexual predator’s relationship with President Donald Trump, his emails also reveal his close relationships with other powerful figures from the worlds of politics, finance, academia and beyond. The thousands of files released by the House Oversight Committee earlier this month include his correspondence from April 2011 through January 2019, after he was already a registered sex offender for abusing underage girls in Florida. The fact that so many prominent and influential people could ignore those crimes is indicative of their membership in a “borderless network of people who are more loyal to each other” than anything else, says journalist Anand Giridharadas. “He had chosen this particular kind of social network, this American power elite, because he could be sure that it would be able to look away.”

Giridharadas is author of Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World and recently wrote about the Epstein emails for The New York Times opinion section.

A Teenage Scoop: Uncovering the Biggest Royal Scandal

How a teenage author broke the biggest ever Royal story | 60 Minutes Australia

At the age of 18 and while still at school , Mario Danneels charmed his way into the palace to write a biography on Queen Paola. The book he published included a single sentence about the existence of a royal loyal love child and he broke the biggest ever story out of the Belgian palace. For two decades, Mario has followed Delphine Boel’s story and tells 60 Minutes reporter Liam Bartlett he considers her a “tremendous person and extraordinary Princess.”

Delphine Boel becomes Belgian Princess Delphine

10 okt 2020
(5 Oct 2020) Delphine Boel has been acknowledged as Belgian Princess Delphine of Saxe-Coburg, after a two-decade royal paternity scandal.
Still, she said on Monday she’d still rather be considered an artist than a royal.
Last week, a Belgian court ruled in her favor and officially recognized here as the daughter of former King Albert II, something the aging monarch had fought tooth and nail to avoid ever since the paternity allegations became public.
For Delphine, she said going to court was all about getting family recognition and the love of a father who had always coldshouldered her.
The former king, whose son Philippe is the reigning monarch, could still make an ultimate legal appeal at the Court of Cassation, but Delphine said it would not go that far. “I think it is finished now.”
King Albert decided in January to no longer fight a claim that he is the father of Boel, after he finally agreed to have a DNA test and received the results.
Rumors about Albert and Boel’s mother, the aristocratic wife of a well-heeled industrialist, had been around for years.
But the news that the king might have had a child with her broke into the open when a biography of Albert’s wife, Queen Paola, was published in 1999.
Boel bears a striking resemblance to certain members of the royal family, including Albert II.
During her adult life she became a sculptor and her works are known for their colorful, quirky, and sometimes provocative style.
She said it will continue to define her.
“I am still going to be Delphine. I am not going to be hanging out in the streets saying, please call me princess,” she said, adding charity work could be an exception.
She said she didn’t know if the recognition would translate into warmer family bonds anytime soon.
“If you ask me whether I am expecting anything from the royal family, as I said, I am not expecting anything. I am just going to carry on with my work,” she said. “And however, if suddenly they show a sign of life, I would never put my back to them. That’s for sure.”
Her two children Josephine and Oscar will also be allowed to carry royal titles.
