I think the problem with building a twin is… it would be too hard to look at for most people.

The new tower looks like two towers leaning against each other.

Absolutely beautiful building, I so miss the World Trade Center though.

I remember, shortly after September 11th, I already started seeing proposals for different designs for the new building in the newspapers. The shock of that awful day had, for me, just started to wear off. As time went on, I wasn’t so sure whether or not the new building should be called The World Trade Center or the The Freedom Tower. However, a couple of years ago, I was in Manhattan and I took the subway down to The World Trade Center. I came up from the station and I saw this giant sign that said World Trade Center. That was an awesome moment! I said to myself that The World Trade Center is back!!

The old ones will always remain the real icon.

Theres some who feel they should have replaced the twin towers ………. while this seems to make sense, but think about it for moment. It will Not correct things, it will Not bring anyone back nor remove the horror that took place. People have severe anguish & anxiety & many lives were lost horribly. It was a terrible terrible day for everyone. …. To rebuild a replica would be to remind many of that Horrible day. This change in appearence,to me I think be for the better & let the horror lie in the past & move forward & honor the victims.

I think it looks amazing. That building is pretty much standing for the new world we live in today. It’s also a very proud looking building as well. 😊

I grew up in NY all my life and would look at the Twin Towers every time I went any across bridge especially the Verazzano and they were beautiful. After 9/11 when I would look in that direction it felt like someone ripped my heart out of my chest. They made the NY skyline, you knew when you were getting close to home because you could see them from miles away and this building has nothing on the Twins.

It would be fantastic to work with a company who was responsible for building such a magnificent office tower in the heart of the financial district in New York. Just imagining how much could be learned from the experts at WSP gives me goosebumps.

One World Trade Center is a beautiful new building. It feels amazing living in NYC and seeing it everyday.

I think the design of the new One World Trade Center looks great, the other designs look pretty bad though especially the one that looks like a bunch of stacked boxes like someone was playing a game of Tetris and really sucked at it. Why can’t they just build two and have them both look the same as the new One World Trade Center? i think that would be great because again it would be twin towers but it wouldn’t look exactly the same because i think to just make them exactly the same wouldn’t be right either. It has to convey newness and hope for the future as well as remembrance and our ability to rebuild and i don’t feel the designs of the other ones fit that, they just look too different.

I remember when I came to New York, my mom gave me a “tour”, and saw those beautiful towers I was ashamed to look up like a tourist, I was trying to pretend I’m real new Yorker lol, but it was imposible not to look up, freedom tower is beatiful and modern, but never gonna be so impressive like the World Trade Center

As much as I love the new building, it is incomplete. As is the rest of the project. The “communications ring at the roof was supposed to enclosed. They, instead, left it incomplete. Also, another WTC building was supposed have a slanted top. The pointed lower end of the roof was supposed to aim directly at ground zero. It never happened.

the building is really beautiful, and somehow, at least it seems to me, it is a kind of tribute to the missing towers, because depending on how you look, it may seem like the towers in some way, and so new generations can get an idea of the effect that had those buildings so high in this same place, so I think the design is successful , and at the same time, innovative, because despite what happened, we must look forward, and although I also liked the twin towers, I think it is better to have built this building, and start a new chapter in the history of new york, architecturally speaking. Well, the environment of the building is magnificent, I think the area is one of the best in Manhattan.

I hope to visit NY soon and can’t wait to see 1WTC and the memorial.

Strictly talking about the buildings, the architect for the original towers hated the idea of all glass for several good reasons. In my view, it looks nice, not ugly, but it doesn’t look “New York” the way the old buildings did. They were clean but gritty, gothic but timelessly modern. They said something when looking at them that this building just doesn’t. Besides that, this building doesn’t really seem to match the surrounding architecture as well.

Authors and builders, you did well. You did well. It’s beautiful, a statement of freedom and resilience that can scarcely be matched. I’ve been to the top, and heard the story of it’s birth. It’s an achievement for the ages and a gift to the future of New York and the USA.

WTC 1 looks pretty amazing, especially with the memorial right below. Probably couldn’t be better. … but the design I seen for WTC 2, after they changed it, was a joke I thought. The design they had the first time for WTC 2 was way better.

I was just looking forward to my first visit to NY when this whole lockdown set about us. Who knows when or if I’ll make it now; but if I do, the first thing I will do is go to see this wonderful building. Truly beautiful.

In order to be triumphant, they needed to build two replacement towers that were kitty corner from the previous ones and taller.

I went and saw this tower 4 years ago. But it was so unreal to be there.. standing there.. knowing what happened in that exact location on 9/11/01. Chills beyond believe.

It looks like two buildings morphed into one. It looks like one starting at the bottom but then the other one is morphed at the top. Hard to explain but that’s cool. Nothing will obviously never meet up to the twins but it’s still beautiful.

It’s is beautiful building indeed, but I will always prefer it’s parents, as they were so iconic.

There is such an extreme level of symbolism in every aspect of both the Twins and becoming this One trade center, it is ridiculous. People just do not understand. I guess they cannot.

I’m glad they decided to rebuild the World Trade Centre. Even though it’s much different from what was there before (which is usually the case when structures are rebuilt), it still looks great!

It looks beautiful, but the twin towers are also very beautiful, and iconic. Even though I was born after 9/11, I still have an opinion that the twin towers should have been rebuilt. But not in the same place of course, because the footprints are to honour the victims of that day. They could have rebuilt them, but right next to the memorial.

Make the actual tallest building in the western hemisphere it would be impressive. Anyone can throw a giant spire on top and call it a day, hell multiple buildings in New York are taller.

It would be cool if they made a twin but the first one is struggling to fill up so I don’t see a reason why we need one

Every time I see The Freedom Tower, I can’t help but to get a lump in my throat. It’s symbolic of what was once there, what is there now, and The Freedom Tower is a pillar of strength! It really is! God Bless New York City! And God Bless America!

Looks like something you see springing up on the Dubai skyline, plus the industrial looking eyesore of a communications tower should have been shrouded in architectural cladding.

Why not build two it would be better and bring back the feel of the old twins

No open air deck. That was what made the old twin towers amazing – a huge square open air platform over half a kilometre up in the air.

I would love this building if it weren’t for that giant-ass antenna on the roof. It’s so huge it ruins the proportions of the volume.

Beautiful, beautiful tower, but we could’ve also built another identical one right next to it.

I love how huge the originals looked, their width paired with the height made them so intimidating. The new tower is beautiful as well, but it doesn’t have that same empowering feeling to it imo.

With all that money invested in the reconstruction of the One World Trade Center, they missed this one flaw of the building, which only happens during very cold winter days. Ice builds up on top floors of the facade, when it thaws, it shoots down at the angles to pedestrians below. When it gets bad, they yellow tape the area off, so no pedestrians are hit with fallen ice.

Went to New York and seen this building with my own eyes and tbh it didn’t look really tall at all…maybe because of the angles and stuff and there’s other tall building surrounding it.

Better without asbestos which the towers had and added sprinklers which the towers DID NOT have. It is built next to the originals, not on the same site.

All these comments complaining about the freedom tower need to be thankful that it’s something instead of nothing. One arm is better than no arm. One leg is better than no leg. I love the freedom tower and I’m very thankful that they built something.

In my opinion they should’ve built the “Twin Towers II” plan, which if you dont know was a plan that involved rebuilding a stronger and slightly taller version of the 1&2 WTCs…

This building is a perfect example of how simple architecture can still look so beautiful, and not like the designers procrastinated until the last second so they whip out something bland. The new World Trade Center, especially the OWTC, is a beautiful, shining icon of America’s resilience. I love how they came up with a design that is dominating, yet still humble. Definitely on my bucket list to visit one day.

It’d help heal the wound by building two of them just to say we’re back and better. I feel seeing one is a reminder of 9/11.

As an engineer, I appreciate the work that went into this. Willis Tower in Chicago is taller. This just has an extra spire or antenna on top and doesn’t count since it is not habited.

in my humble opinion,i would say overall they got this building right,having just one is a statement,and reminder,if they built 2 then it would be like trying to erase the memory of that dreadful day.i have visited the memorial,and was taken back by how quiet and almost serene the atmosphere was,i’ll never forget the day,i can only imagine the horrors that unfolded in the u.s.and the struggle to rebuild.r.i.p.

If the developers really paid attention to the public, to New Yorkers when designing this whole project, they would know that everyone hates the new design of 2 WTC, really, no one likes it. So they should either stick to the first and original one, or come up with something better, something less boxy.

I love this building! but the top of the building AKA the spire is really ugly looking. I think they could of done a lot better in that regard.

I’m glad they didn’t build on the foot prints of the twins. I see it as a graveyard for all the people whose bodies could not be found due being vaporized by the heat and fire. For them, that is their final resting place even though their bodies don’t exist.

During the Months leading up to 9/11, there were many vacant floors undergoing “renovations”. The elevators were also going through upgrades which took months to complete, and allowed hundreds of tradesmen, laden with tonnes of parts and equipment, free access into both buildings and in particular, the elevator shafts which provided access to every column. The weekend before 9/11 there was no operational security in the building for the best part of 2 days. This information is not a conspiracy theory, it is easily verified by the Port Authority service records. There was more than enough time & opportunity to completely wire both buildings for a controlled explosion. Wake up America, your Governments have a history of doing this. Use some of your intelligence to seek the truth yourself. May all the victims of 9/11 RIP.

The freedom tower looks good. The first towers looked good, but they were not strong enough, plus we’re in the modern day age now, where things and time has changed, and not in the 60s anymore. Let’s move forward America with it.

This is good. They painted this building so that it reflects the sky (being more invisible from the sky) and is in less visible place so that the terrorists can’t find it so easy. It is 1,776 feet tall which matches the ‘year of US Independence’. C’mon, be grateful.

Wasn’t it a bit gross to build a new tower on top of where so many died and were never found? wouldn’t there bodies be part of the foundations? I thought a giant memorial garden like a second central park would have been more respectful to the fallen.

Someone online pointed out the patchy glass, like it was sourced from different suppliers. There are weird irregular patterns and now every time I look at it I can’t see past that. Hope I’ve not ruined it for you! :/

Its a beautiful building but you can’t replace the Twin Towers. As a child my dad took me several times to the World Trade Center and the most icon scene that I can remember was when looking back at the Twin Towers when the sun set down across the Hudson river. I remember taking the ferry back home and nothing can replace that scenery from across the river whether you were standing on Hoboken, Liberty state park or Boulevard East the Twin Towers were irreplaceable.

I find this new tower, looks a lot like other ones from around the world! I agree 100% the twin towers were the iconic ones! In my opinion as much as it would hurt and bad memories of what happened, it would have been better to build twin towers again, but looking completely different than the old ones, two of the same one built already, instead of 1 alone! This would be my opinion, based on the fact that there was 2 before. Only 1 for me does not do it at all, this is not iconic in any way!

I think the OWTC is very looks uninspired, rushed and generic. The Original were brutal looking initially, but complemented each other greatly, looked wonderful at night with the lights and the details on them were immense and stunning. They should have rebuilt them (almost exactly the same) but slightly bigger and much stronger!

Hold on, if the new tower (with the spire removed) is the exact same height as the old towers (with the spire removed) then why the heck did they “need to make the geometry and design work”? Clearly the older design worked and an overwhelming majority of New Yorkers wanted the old towers to be rebuilt and to just make them a little bit taller. I’m not completely upset with the single new tower, but they could’ve and should’ve listen to the people of New York and given them what they want and not made this into a modern art piece rather than a practical/functional memorial and business center

Basically they needed to make a building that was impenetrable like the Titanic but better Titanic 2 of course this one won’t sink because its a building on land honestly I think the building should have turrets on it so then it could take out anything that goes near it then that’s a Fortress of Solitude

I find it heart warming that they respectfully didn’t build the new building over the area of the two originals. THAT shit doesn’t leave you. I almost killed myself in a car rollover going 60mph when I was 18, came out unscathed but was 10ft from a pole and 15ft from a ravine. I should have died that day in pieces in a tree, or caught in a live wire. Just going off the side of the road or suddenly hitting gravel with the tires STILL hits back me into that day and gets my mind on high alert, even 7 years later. Shit like that doesn’t leave you. think about what they went through before you demand a remake. Some of us weren’t even old enough to remember the incident (I was five at the time in Colorado and still remember it on TV) and yet want to have an opinion about it.

The idea that spending money and re-building something on that site could ever take away from the emptiness left by their absence is a reflection of modern thinking’s fundamental flaw. That money and wealth really symbolize anything or that you can re-write history instead of creating something entirely new in itself. To me, the spot looks just as empty as before, if not emptier, because nothing could have ever gone in that spot that would symbolize anything but repeating an error in American thought. It shows we learned nothing from that day.

Obviously nothing could replace the twin towers, but maybe they shouldn’t be. They should remain as those distinctive figures in history. This new building is beautiful and was an amazing achievement by everyone involved. Long live NYC ❤️

I honestly don’t like the design. I know the twin towers were simple and some considered them “boring”, but they really were iconic. Maybe that nostalgia talking but I can’t help it. As a native New Yorker, I feel it’s a wonderful story of resilience. However, I will not likely ever visit the Freedom Tower. For some, it takes a generation to forget and/or feel any amount of comfort with even our ability to recover. When I hear speak of how strong the Freedom Tower is, I just can’t get to a level of comfort. I’m not saying it isn’t strong. But, I feel that cost and the limits of physics and architecture just aren’t going to make a passenger plane bounce off of it, regardless. I almost worked within sight of the Freedom Tower and I almost worked at Hudson Yards. I’m grateful that neither worked out. Sorry.

I think the one world is a memorial to the victims that lost their lives. A building where you can see the reflection of the sky above, and where we feel more closer to the ones that lost their lives. I think it is so imortant for that area to be beautiful, not messy, peaceful looking, and where you can remember but also think about the future. When i went there in 2014, well i felt it needed a park beside the two memorials, in which the busy street wouldnt be seen, and you could sit down and breath. I hope that there is more greenery there one day. Flowers and such, and not just all balt.

The World Trade Centre was breath-taking when seen as designed, absolute waterfront. These monuments should have been replaced as the monument to Sept 11, but higher with a concrete core. That is freedom. The foot-prints are there, put them back. The so called “Freedom Tower” should be called the “Defeated Tower”. Sydney would rebuild the Opera House. France would rebuild the Eiffel Tower. India would rebuild the Taj Mahal. England would rebuild Big Ben. Stare terrorists in the face. On September 11 we all saw their weapons of mass destruction, a box cutter. On September 12 they should have seen the west’s weapon of mass destruction. Just one. Sorry Tehran…. boom. I hated One World after it was done, i wanted the old twin again but as time passed i realized had the twin returned i really would not feel good about it nor would i be able to accept it as old twin replacement. Could be wrong, but wasnt the reason most people couldnt get out in the first place was because all the stairs and elevators were located in the cores of the two towers? And the planes both hit and damaged the cores. How is this design any different?

The grid iron corruption, politics, delays and cost over runs were just absurd. They could have replaced the WTC in less than 5 years but it dragged on nearly twice as long and the cost overruns were massive. Now that a lot of business and people are choosing to live in lower Manhattan makes up for all the cost over runs and politics. It’s a place of healing and rejuvenation for a lot of people now.

The real icons were destroyed in 2001. I like this building but it doesn’t even feel like it can represent NYC like the twin towers did or the Empire State Building.

the current WTC2 design needs to be replaced, it literally looks like it’s falling over. it’s not necessarily worse than any other glass curtain building, it’s just inappropriate for the site. the original “four diamonds” design was much more appropriate and fitting in relation to the Freedom Tower.

I don’t agree with people who say there should be a Twin. The landscape of NY was forever changed on 9/11. To build a twin would feel like going back, when what should be done is moving forward. On the other hand, there’s lots of survivors still living in NY with sever PTSD. How do you think they would feel seeing twin towers again on the same site where they lost so much? It would probably cause them great anguish to see new twin towers. I think a new design is needed, not a copy of the old one.

This building is gorgeous ,i liked the old ones but i like this better, the old twins were so unique in terms of the construction method and design (which ultimately led to the building’s demise) but there is so mush thought that went into this in terms of the design aestetic,the shape,the chamfers…wow ..yes its all glass facade but thats keeping in trend with modern office building.

The Freedom Tower’s fine, but I want the original World Trade Center back, we all want the twins back. The twin towers which structural engineer Ken Gardner designed looks magnificent and phenomenon, if those twin towers were built, they will look much more beautiful and outstanding in person, and Lower Manhattan will get its skyline back, I’ll be able to visit there and enjoy the whole borough every moment of my life.

Personally, I think they should rebuild the twin towers. They say “There’s not enough room” UM, NEAR THAT STREET, NEXT TO THE NORTH TOWER, RIGHT IN THE SPOT NEXT TO WHERE THOSE SOLAR PANELS ARE. Plus, why waste space by making fountains with the foundation? They should build the twin towers, the same architecture, back on the foundation, and have the memorial IN THE LOBBY, or at least what they can do is have the names on the foundation, but where the water is, that’s where they build the tower. What I mean is build the buildings on the inner side of the walls of the foundation itself. But another idea is to have the names carved into the elevator doors, the walls, something. Otherwise, you are wasting space. They were originally planning to rebuild the twin towers, but they were like “Instead of building 2 gigantic buildings with a few low-rise buildings, let’s build a bunch of crummy 80-floor buildings! Come on, the architect of the twin towers didn’t die for this. The VERY LEAST they can do is build a second freedom tower. That’s exaggeration. Same design building we can see in South Korea and Israel. It’s already outdated crap. That’s nothing new. Old twins were full of uniqueness.

One World Trade Center is a pretty building but nothing like the Twin Towers. There should be new, bigger and indestructible Twin Towers beside it. Then 1WTC could represent our recovery and freedom.

I’m glad they built it as fast as they did. It’s a source of inspiration and healing, but also defiance to the evil people that applauded the destruction of the twin towers. Say what you want about New York, but they won’t be beaten down.

The twin towers are far more impressive. The OWTC is less impressive, the design is less attractive compare to other supertalls around the world. They should incorporate some design fr d old twin tower, “american classic design” the antenna at top looks in appropriate it didnt incorporate to d design of d modern building… unlike for example the antena of empire state ang sears tower added more asthetic beauty to the buildings😁 for me its a lame design, if its not for its majestic height? It look so ordinary.. btw its just my opinion😁😁😁

Wow, tough crowd! Everybody knows the twin towers are irreplaceable. Irreplaceable. Rebuilding them wasn’t/isn’t really an option if you consider the optics. They would carry too much pain now. Admit it. We would never see them the same way. I think rebuilding the twins would be insensitive and arrogant. Even more, it would be creepy to see those in the skyline again, considering all the pain and fear associated with them on that day. Besides, I think OWTC is a very beautiful middle finger for those responsible.

Using a spire to count towards the total height is such a cop out. Sears Tower in Chicago is still taller, check the roof line.

I know that it will most likely get hit by planes again. But they made some very good decisions. They thicken the concerts more than they had to. Props to all the people that helped and worked on the building. It just shows that when 9/11 happened, it did not make us weaker, it united us better than we ever imagined. RIP to all that died that day.

A new set of twins would be a slap on the face of “TERRORISM” and a motivation for New Yorkers.

The Willis (Sears) tower in Chicago is much taller than this building but because of the 350 ft Antenna on world trade they say it’s bigger. What a joke.

No they shouldn’t have built …just burie what happened…should keep the memories for both building…

Let me be blunt. Sorry if this hurts anyone’s feelings or brings bad bad memories. But I have to ask!… if someone decides to slam a plane say an Airbus 360 into this building is it going to stay up? Or are we going to see another monumental collapse on live tv?

I think they should rebuild the World Trade Center the Twin Towers exactly the way they were before 9/11 I think that would have stood the test of time. At the buildings that the terrorists tried to destroy return to this earth tall and looked mightier than ever
