Louis Theroux’s MOST Emotional Documentary… – Blog

stephan guisseppi
Refreshing to hear someone talk so openly with no fear of being branded a ‘sympathiser’. Louis’s quite unique in his brilliant style and application.
Achilles
Louis is a national treasure. His documentaries are brilliant.
Ben Wilde
Louis has tackled the most taboo subjects brilliantly and continues to do so. In respect of the Jimmy Saville documentary it’s easy for anyone to look in hindsight at the past and it is a shame that Louis has to defend himself. I remember my mother saying many years ago when he was on Jim’ll Fix It that she couldn’t stand the man and he gave her the creeps. I always remember her repeatedly saying that she didn’t trust him whenever he appeared on the TV and I don’t doubt this a view that was shared by many across the country well before his death.
Laura 55
I always remember the story of one young girl who was invited to see Saville in his caravan in the grounds of a hospital or children’s home , of course he tried it on with her, she protested and complained to the ‘ management’ , and was immediately put into isolation for three days until she agreed not to complain.

Love seeing Louis being really open and talkative. Love his docs
514NN4N
Always loved Louis. His interview style in his docs is something I’ve come to love over the years. He never shows how he truly feels and keeps a stoic unbiased facial expression and view, and politely interjects his opinion and such a manner that it’s fascinating to watch. He really gets into what he’s investigating and has brought some of the best journalism to us over the last couple decades.
Esi N
This is so fascinating. I know the presenters were keen to hear Louis’ answers, but I wish they’d allowed him to finish sentences and not finish them for him.
Mr.James David Robert
The world needs more people like Louis Theroux.
Heeeeer'es Rossy!
I’ve watched ‘When Louis Met Jimmy’ several times through sheer morbid fascinating, and also to see if I myself could pick up on any abnormities exuded by Jimmy. But like Louis, I was perplexed by his whole persona. I am of course viewing the documentary through pre-abuse claims and the death of Saville. The guy was a master of manipulation.
Tom Audis
I love how Louis just turns off when Brain and Lawrence just interrupt him with meaningless conversation and then carries on exactly where he was before he was rudely interrupted
Jack Esposito
After watching the documentary, I believe that this is one of the biggest failure in British history 😢
Eddie Mcgrath
I worked at pinewood in the late 80s, i was told about him back then by several different people, it was an open secret in those circles, but like everyone else took it as just hearsay or malicious rumours. Told many people over the years what I’d heard and no believed it until it all blew up.
Glass Dome
How anyone can look at Jimmy Saville without even knowing the allegations and think that he is a normal individual without a sinister side, is just shocking. He was the most creepy looking and behaving character. Then the allegations came out. The only thing that makes no sense is how he could create such fear in people to have got him to where he got to. A talentless., creepy, man that got close to charities and individuals to manipulate humans to believe he was good.
MY Football Collection
Always fascinating listening to Louis and watching his documentaries. He’s a guy who always has something interesting to say, it’s a pity the other bloke kept on cutting him off and interrupting though 🤦‍♂ One of True Geordie’s skills is actually letting his guests speak before responding, which ends up ruining the interaction.
l d
Louis, you are unique. While you often appear emotionless, I really like that about you. Some people find it “dull” ,. But as an analyst by nature I really do see where you are coming from. I genuinely love your work
amanda Johnson-Williams
Louis is very definitely a special man!! I love his way of thinking, he is such a pure person, so authentic. He IS a treasure. Heart warming 💜💜💜👍🇬🇧
ChrisA_No9
Get Jonny rotten on if you can. He was in the know back then and claims people were covering it up. Would be fascinating. Not to mention his sex pistols stories
Jay Chadwick
Netflix NEED to invest in Louis, so he can create an investigative journalism series on numerous topics, in different countries around the globe.
Rob Smart
dont think we will see some one else who does documentations like louis. he comes across so innocent that people cant help but to open up to him
A A
Absolutely love Louis the things he has in his mind and has to live with. There are people on this planet made for this rleason. Truth seekers, Tellers. ❤ such a heavy wieght.
Violet Lilly
Louis is an incredibly intelligent, honest and thoughtful journalist. Certainly one of the most genuine ever to have been on our screens, I have great respect and admiration for his incredible integrity!
Sam Weston
Louis is fantastic and I’ve followed his career since the very early days. I do however think his recent output is his poorest. His personality is at its best when he is tackling humorous, not serious, subjects in my view.
Adam McMahon
How could you not know he’s creepy ,I would never hang around someone like Seville even before the allegations , he oozes creepiness, so strange because Louis is so amazing
MegaLochgelly
Louis really needed more talented interviewers for this.
Adam Fearn
Fantastic podcast just listened to the whole thing in one, great leading questions from Geordie and Laurence. Towards a highly interesting guest in everyone’s favourite Louis Theroux
Fluffy Bunny
Doesn’t matter where Savile was he was ultimately responsible for his evil wrongdoing….but others no matter where ( the BBC or the hospitals) Who were aware of his activities, also bore a responsibility to expose his wicked crimes!
Richard Sunday
I’ve always enjoyed Louis’s interview style and approach but feel Louis is very very intelligent and plays a role slightly as a little innocent or uninformed to ask a serious question in a way he can get away with .. if you get me
Riley Luce
Its great to hear Louis off the cuff, he is officially the best person at talking ever
Zakk Flanagan
You can see the impact of Saville on Louis work. After the truth came out, gone was the goofy, curious, non-judgemental nature of interviews. It became Louis taking a position and trying to argue against wrong especially concerning celebrities. The documentaries have suffered, left a deep scar.
Jay Mac
I grew up watching Louis Theroux documentaries he’s always been brilliant viewing!
BecksCald
The docs are always incredible. I remember sitting at my grans when the news came out about JS. I remember saying ‘what’s the point he’s dead.’ Only now have I realised I wasn’t saying he should rest in peace. I was actually angry because he couldn’t be punished, he couldn’t have a trail, he couldn’t be interrogated by police. Hearing a guilty verdict. That’s what’s sad. The victims know he’s dead but he should have had a hard time with police etc.
Amz M
I would watch any documentary that Louis does. He’s brilliant & they way he conducts them are always done so well. I’ve enjoyed documentaries I would have no interest in apart from Louis was doing it. I remember watching the Savile documentary think he was very manipulative & trying to win Louis over. I just got that bad gut feeling watching him & couldn’t find anything nice about him by the end of it. I had specifically thought god he’s pulled the wool over Louis eyes.
Gary Green
The real crime is that the truth didn’t come out until he died
Lisa Sleep
i love him always on point love his documentaries
Lucas 011
It was an interesting piece with jimmy and Louis because Louis used the same kind of interview tactics where he makes himself appear vulnerable to get the subject to say or do certain things . Jimmy used the same kind of tactics on Louis .
matt o
True Geordie, you’re a great interviewer. Well done.
SuperDrWhoooLock
Louis Theroux is great, I just started watching the forbidden America series, the first episode is so good, the way he handles people spouting hate at him is remarkable honestly
Politically incorrect
Louis Theroux weird weekends…….great watching. The good old days
S Cox
Im so jealous some big old brute of a man, a fighting, fitness McGregor fan, gets to interview Louis Theroux. Love your work, Geordie. Honest Analysis of mma and good questions with Louis
WeatherGirl
I feel for Louis Theroux’s guilt. He’s a top investigative journalist with misgivings and missed it. All of us groomed people feel the same. These people are so good at manipulation. You have to let the guilt go. The perp is at fault. Not the groomed person.
F424npe
Great podcast thank s buddy… Louis a brilliant journalist broadcaster filmmaker. Very intelligent loveable guy who I’ve been a fan of from the beginning louis needs to come back to our screens more he’s just a legend in his own right
Damiantos D
Interesting to hear Louie say he had friendly feelings towards him. Shouldn’t feel guilty about that part Saville manipulated and tricked people for years.
Dell Wright
Great interview… Louis Theroux is always interesting to listen to.
Françoise Dupré
Louis, as others have mentioned here, is a pleasure to listen to, comes across as a really nice guy.
Raphael Dawkins Combat Radio
Louis Theroux has given me many year of enlightening entertainment over the years.
Michael Booth
This is great interview 👏. It’s great that you guys let Louis talk.
Lu H
Although the BBC were complicit…he is right about the NHS.
blutey
I remember in the 1970s and 80s he was lionised by the British media always appearing on news items being interviewed in his tracksuit while doing charity runs etc As a kid I found him creepy but did watch his Jim’ll Fix It TV program.
JGF ESTMMXX
Great work as always man, pleasure watching the vids
M
He was supplying children to people. His nephew told a few stories about things he had seen. The thing is is that this sort of thing has been going on a very long time. We can even go back to the Roman times. But this ring goes far and wide and LOTS of politicians and people in power partake in. Then there are the others on the same level that know about it and turn a blind eye to it. The main reason it continues to this day, virtually unchecked.
Anthony Suddaby
Truly excellent interview!
Gadabout United
Great interview, going to watch the full version now.
Kate Blue
I think this is interesting- I always wondered what his take was. He describes it very plausibly, I get how he trod carefully and came to like him. Right up to the point he was asked about trafficking. Saville said that he had a lot of cars to make a quick escape, and he said that he had dirt on people. I don’t think Louis is ready to face the trafficking reality of the story yet. Or he’s in that circle.
wezz music
I’m a child of the same era & like many others wrote in to “Jim’ll Fix It”. In hindsight, thank god I didn’t end up on the program. It’s thanks to people like Lois that we know what we know now. Thanks
Peter G
I often wondered what Saville’s mother would have thought of him, or to what degree she knew about how disturbed he was to say the least.
sandy
I remember seeing this on late night TV here in Australia. I had no idea who either one was but I did keep watching Louis T because I loved his interviews. Years later I found out just who Jimmy Saville was. Yuck…
Kacper Snicket
Laurance, if it is an NHS failure then this does not mean this is a challenge to your political beliefs or the NHS as it stands now, neither should you be worried about some stupid paper that is known for bull. It is the victims and the people who let this happen that should be focused on, and if you don’t like where that goes just because it could be down to NHS staff and management allowing it then you need to take the partisan blinders off pal.
Frank Zappa
@True Georgie Xtra Really good work man, I have watched you over the years and just want to say how much I respect you. You have really evolved into a top quality interviewer!
john holme
Don’t beat yourself up, he deceived a lot of other people as well. He had a lot of superficial charm like most psychopaths.
Joe Whittaker
Very good delivery on pertinent questions. Obvious no attempt by LT to dissemble or cover up any detail. I finished listening that if there was a fraction of such honesty coming via the mainstream media – life could be lived more reasonably
BRYAN BELSHAW
Savile may have been a loner but you can bet your bottom dollar that there were those in power who had info on him and the crimes he committed long before he died.
Rachel K
Louis documentaries are so good. Saville was a suspect in the Ripper murders, he was questioned apparently.

Dee Stroyer
Sorry I have to ask why Louie can’t believe Saville supplied kids to others. All he had to do was go in a car, or get someone else to drive them to whoever wanted them. He may have been hanging around with the barber and shop keeper at the end of his life but the early/mid days he was very much hanging in powerful circles. Feel Louie is trying not to end his own career by dismissing the other culprits
BRYAN BELSHAW
The BBC actively covered up his crimes for decades. The deserve the rap…..and more besides.
J Godf!
I was being discharged from Stoke Mandeville spinal ward in 2001 the day Saville was visiting I was exited with the news of his arrival as a kid growing up with Jim’l fix it but that quickly became sour as the atmosphere of the nurses was a sense of worry! His words to me on arrival was.. anyone better looking than me has 10 minutes to leave! A bit weird for what I thought was a national treasure! Years later this all came out and I can’t help but think I should of spoke up at the time but being only 20 I didn’t think anyone would listen!
Marcus Maher - Triskellion Films
When I saw the docco in 2000 I remembered thinking after he showed LT the ‘The naughty chair’ where he made examples of young people…the cops should have been called…he was almost confessing what he was.
Jackson Rees
I disagree with Louis tbh, savile had his hands in every pie possible! He was 100% delivering children to high end people which showed in that documentary of a young man being drafted through a house in London and seeing jimmy savile in the flesh.
Smitten89
I knew the horrible details before the Saville interview and I sadly felt Louis knew and ignored the elephant in the room.
Terry Tibbs
Half truths, half the story with this interview! Louis knows a lot more than he’s letting on. I recall Saville telling him in documentary that “he is feared in every girls school in Britain” no mention of this

Dave Francis
Why Louis can’t admit that the entire series was really a piss take of has-been or forgotten celebrities and it was made purely to exploit their quirkiness or highlight their sadness on their way down the celebrity tier list. The situation simply went down an unexpected path that hindsight suggests was not only hinted at but was standing out in plain sight. When you play with fire, sometimes you get burned and realistically Louis was lucky to not have sacrificed his career over this incident, something that definitely changed his documentaries at their core, from being comedic “hey look at these weirdos” to actually truth seeking and genuine. His penance for this mistake is having to talk about this horrible monster for the rest of ever and the fact that he can with obvious attention to detail suggest that it really did strike a nerve and recalibrate him as a journalist/presenter/film maker.
Nick Baker
Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols has a radio show called Jonesys Jukebox. In 2007 or 2008 he had Oasis on his show and he said that he heard Jimmy Saville was into Necrophilia and ‘doing dead people’ but because he’s connected it would never come out. That’s after his and John Lydons BBC interview in 1977 where they claimed Saville was involved in ‘all types of seedy things’
Diane Silva
Louis is a very sharp fellow. I think he knew something was off about Jimmy and was chummy with him on his documentary to try and trip him up but he didn’t. Not sure about the nature of Jimmy’s connections with royals and VIPs. It seems odd they would be so familiar with someone like him and allow him access to the palace.
Andrew Johnson
I remember this ..good interview …just made me feel sick as a kid. Jimmy will fix it …Remember ..My parents said said ..you do not like him do you! no ..I did not. ..was really young …feeling …I had to leave room ..true …Kept his mothers clothes etc …felt sick again …just creepy…no way …
Sean Byrne
Wow. Thanks for this guys. This Was very very professional 👌🏼
harry nac
It’s hard to process that someone can be likeable and horrible at the same time. Savile was very intelligent. Hiding in plain side.
Lucian Epifanio
The way Louis Theroux speaks about Saville and all the “positives” is unnerving, regardless of whether he came across as a “friendly” figure or not, there was a monster hiding behind that facade. It doesn’t make him any less of an abomination.
Matt Feurtado
In my opinion the line of questioning from these two shows the gulf in class between them and journalists like Louis theroux. I hope they understand that, there is far too much self congratulation on YouTube.
Big Tam
Louis is spot on….yes the BBC were despicable regarding saville .but the hospitals and prisons who let him have rooms and access to patients and inmates were even worse .surely they knew what he was up to regardless of how much money he raised he should have been jailed..
Catherine Kercher
I have such a huge amount of respect for Louis in terms of how he is so diplomatic in acknowledging Savilles crimes but you can still get that sense of respect that Louis stands by for someone he felt friendship towards. It’s such a fascinating discussion and one I’m sure we’ll never tire of given that justice can not be served.
Cindalz Hudson
I love Louis ! I am just angry in my country we do not get the channels or streaming sites with his doccies so one has to really search places to find them .
JimBoB Beer
Used to regularly see Savile hanging about outside Dunnies Cafe in Otley after school. We’d always give him the full meow-meow-meow Charlie says treatment even then (early 80’s).
Amy
All those complicit in covering up Savile’s hideous crimes should be brought to justice too. Complicit people just allow crimes to continue. Probably still goes on today with high profiled people, not speaking up against powerful people.
ChubbyChecker182
I think Jimmys appearance on “Through The KeyHole” is one of his most disturbing with both his creepy flat and his appearance in the studio… It’s on YouTube if you look around.
Michael H
I very much enjoyed Brian trying to push Louis into the Epstein conspiracy theory stuff and Louie effortlessly dodged and dismissed it
Shane
Didnt notice it the first time i watched but judging from this and other interviews Theroux seems to be towing a pro-BBC line and minimising any blame that lies within that institution, as well as casting doubt on the idea of other individuals being involved with or connected to Saville’s abuse with seemingly solid but actually rather flimsy arguments which are speculative at best Remember this guy is a high-level BBC journalist which means he has both extensive training in and understanding of media, communication, messaging etc. and a vested interest in defending the BBC from scrutiny and criticism
Joe Chambers
My uncle worked as a dispach rider for the bbc at that time and got me and my brothers and sisters tickets to top of the pops. His car wouldnt start fortunately!
Chance the Fapper
“Maybe don’t point that out because the Daily Mail is waiting on them to trip up” Is exactly my problem with the modern left and politics in general, so blinded by a hatred for the other side that you’re willing to ignore or not publicise a story about children being sexually abused for fear of being called out on it by those you see as your enemy which is exactly how this was all covered up to begin with and Lawrence does not recognise his own hypocrisy’s
Danny Davidson
everything louie theroux does is 👌
Flat Line
Even to my innocent mind back then, Louis in his documentry had raised awareness of Saville.
Bubba bitty
I’m interested in knowing what makes something/someone like Jimmy in the first place 🤨🧐
Steve Wilson
Yeah completely understandable, and makes sense. He had high profile aquaintances,at the same time maintained some connection to working class people as well. That is the formula he used in a nut shell. He used his fame and connections to bugger the children of the voiceless commoners. He had to maintain some connection to the commoners to attain access to the children he was interested in. Makes sense. Because it was the children of ordinary people he abused, not the children of other famous connected people.
Steph Felis
I saw this doco when it came out and I was struck by what a creepy looking and acting thing he was (when he was younger as well) and marvelled that he had been a much loved entertainer. Oh and BTW the NHS sux.
Garf Lewis
I love how Geordie and Lawrence keep trying to butt in and finish Louis sentence for him.
dylan beddoes
I like that Louis is very open and he understands that he was manipulated and doesn’t show any sympathy towards him
Baron Samedi
Well done on the interview. However, you need to let your guests finish their points and train of thought before you interject or make your point. You interrupted Louis mid-sentence a few times
ian1patterson
When a person is asked an uncomfortable question and they immediately fold their arms , it’s a defensive response physically that arouses suspicion to the validity of the answer given.
RCS195
Louie is the best documentary maker

so crazy, im canadian and growing up in the 80s i heard the exact same rumours about rod stewart, richard gere. i had no idea who saville was because his programs weren’t shown in canada.
cautionTosser
his own nephew stated he was part of a child trafficking ring. This was a good interview and I really like Louis’s work, but I think he’s still a little spellbound by Savile.
Keep Keepers
Love Louis so much! Brilliant brilliant guy
Anon Amoss
don’t know why Louie is lying, jimmy was a procurer of kids for the royals and politicians! also when i watched the documentary years ago there was a scene where in jimmies house there was a cupboard Louie opened and it was floor to ceiling filled with little girls dolls! when i found and watched the documentary again a few years ago that doll scene had been completely removed from the documentary..why? still trying to cover up for him and those VIPs he mingled with.
Kv Kv
There are few women who watched your documentary and didn’t feel sick to the stomach.. because the depth of the depravity was SO OBVIOUS! You either knew more or you have incredibly poor judgment.
WhosJiinx
Something tells me Theroux isn’t being completely transparent here
Chris T
Louis Theroux is a brilliant broadcaster & a very clever manipulator himself & how he tries to extract peoples inner thoughts which he does quite successfully. He said himself there that producers & I believe the top brass must of known at the bbc all the time about Savile’s antics & it must have been a cover up & also him walking corridors of the Leeds General Infirmary were predominately done at night when there was not a lot of staff around & he knew that so he could get away with it easily. To hold the LGI responsible for that would be unfair to say the least. I believe Savile was a controlling fabricating psychopath who used that personality to fool everybody else & he did that with ease but the signs were there & many at the bbc chose not to question it.
Broceliande Forest
Why tell Louis to be quiet in order to protect the BBC and hospitals just because you don’t like the Daily Mail? That’s exactly the attitude that made sure Saville got away with it.
Olivia xoxo meme or animate
Of course he’s being defensive, he’s taking the rap for wide scale failings in public institutions, NHS, BBC, Police, etc The only guy to publicly ask him the question and bring it to the public’s attention
BIG T
He had free entry into Buckingham palace , no security checks . Just waved straight through.
Jamie Carnon
Could listen to Louis talk about any subject for eternity.
Dusty Savoy
One of the most chilling images one could conjure into mind “Jimmy Savile walks down the corridor of an understaffed children’s ward donning a white staff coat and strolls into the patient bed quarters and proceeds to suck all the air out of the room as the children recoil in terror of this crazy faced, wide eyed, platinum ghost white figure”
Elke
Louis dares to go in where many peeps just open the door, respect.
John Hastings
Very good interview!
S Cox
I think people often think of terms like MO or gaslighting as if it’s a conscious thing. His way of ingratiating himself was probably not a deliberate attempt to empower himself or to hide his crimes. It was probably the way he effectively climbed the social ladder, a learned, subconscious characteristic. Don’t think that everyone who ingratiates themselves or gaslights is bad. they are very common behaviours that people learn to use over a long time. He was a fuckin creep tho
Heather Haldane
BBC and police covered up everything ask your self how he managed to get into these positions.
Cameron Smith
Great eye opening chat. Thank you
Daniel Bate
The BBC’s silence tells me all I need to know, same for Prince Andrew since the Maitlis interview.
Mythic Pie
Smells of cover-up to me, Yewtree was an clean up operation, I wouldn’t trust Mr Theroux nor anyone else with this matter. The secret service were well aware and I would guess media and secret service are aligned at the highest level.
tenpinjohn89
“and he was a crappy DJ” That’s partly how he got to a level of fame and love because he was an accomplished broadcaster. I know Louis answered it but it’s such an ill informed statement and complete lack of understanding of the subject
Strangingness
Random one, I’d love to see True Geordie have a friendly spar with Eddie Hall on an episode of his?
Situation IT
You guys should do a podcast with “prince Andrew” before he goes to jail. Ask him about the sweating 😅

Charlene armson
You now have a new sub! Absolutely love Louis best investigative journalist!
Maria Jefferies
I think Louis is a really good guy, talented intelligent and ordinary 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Vanessa Kelly
That was interesting, thank you ☺
Brian Conneely
Louis showed the world the truth as always
S Gordon
Thank you for speaking out Louis. You have put my mind at rest over this somewhat. I will read the report you suggest and I agree that the NHS have huge questions to answer.
Oliver
Interesting interview. I don’t think Louis should feel like he shoulders any of the blame for not probing further into Saville. Louis did more to highlight issues surrounding Saville than anyone else that I can recall & at a time when nobody was talking about it. Its easier being critical with the benefit of hindsight. People who worked for the BBC were aware & refused to speak out. Go find the interview with Bill Oddie where he admits as much & while your at it check out the reaction of Esther Rantzen. Saville wasn’t a one off like the mainstream media like to portray him. He was protected by the British Establishment. Saville was incredibly well connected & untouchable. Why would they wait for him to die before allowing the story to break? Consider the sheer number of victims & why Police investigations were allowed to go no further… Saville was just the tip of the iceberg..
Connell
Jonny rotten was screaming it for years
sassijay
How can Louie not know he was a fixer for the rich and famous. Come on Louie🤦‍♀
Julian Carro
Brilliantly explained by Louis Theroux.
paddymcphie
“anyone who he imagined was powerful or had something that he thought might helpful to him he would attempt to manipulate” after speaking for 20 minutes saying he doesn’t think the saville story involved anybody else.
KhalDrogo76
You have to admit, Jimmy Savile along with being a monster was pretty brilliant. He lived a life of shady practices all right under the microscope of celebrity, and was never really called out in his lifetime. That isn’t necessarily easy to pull off.
Bern
Louis still defending his mate. He knew all along just didn’t have the minerals to oust him.
P S
The thought of Savile moving around unsupervised in children’s hospitals is so fkn concerning!
Lynnette Turner
I love Louis but come on now, you don’t become a “confidante” of Prince Charles if that is not the company you keep. To become a confidante of anyone you have to spend a lot of time with them and gain their confidence, hence the term.
Jazza
Leeds General Infirmary after the cases came to light created a rule where you now need more than one person in the Morgue at once…
Premiumboxingtips Predictions
Louis never upset me until he proved to be pro clot shot vaccine. Befriending Saville was just 2 humans connecting. No problem with that.
Oscar
Some of these comments from these Lego conspiracy theorists are beyond cringeworthy – implying that Louis Theroux knows more than he’s letting off simply on the basis that he’s talking about his interactions with Jimmy Saville. Comical to even think about how stupid you’d have to be to believe that
Stephen Ryan
I’m from Leeds and when he says “Leeds General Infirmary” it makes it that much more real. I know that hospital well. 😱
bosseyed boo
Scotland yard never knew he was a pred. The queens best men never knew he was a pred. Kinda like how the royals didn’t know Ralph Harris was a pred or dear wee dry arm pits Andy. Yup.

Great interview and great lighting too!

Knighted by the Queen, spent every summer in Balmoral, died a multi millionaire.

Would loved to have seen “When Louis met Lemmy”!
captain sausage
I was touched by this thank god not by Jimmy himself
Bronwyn Ishac
Louis we love ❤️ you in Australia 🇦🇺
777Ruffdriver
I find the interviewees tripping there self over each other ,you only need one interviewer to do this interview justice.
cr 500
could have been a great interview if they’d let Louis speak
Ss cc
Jimmy was a national treasure also. Until people find out the TV personally is just a mirage
j0nnyism
Nice to hear him rebuff some of the nonsense written about savile since his death
brian milligan
It’s amazing none of you can see Louis thereu is also protecting the BBC all for the reason he would not be allowed to broadcast
Sonny Matthews
Clunky questioning, the BBC gave Savile the platform and access to children, the NHS wouldn’t have given a random member of the public the type of access Savile had without his fame.
Himanshu Singh
you know when someone starts to stutter who otherwise were so fluent and confident…. somethings wrong.
As33
Does feel like Louis is underplaying Saviles influence. Normal celebrities don’t just regularly hang out with Thatcher or the Royals.
Gravy
I do not have it but what a great example of how Autism is a gift, most of us wont ask these questions but he always asks what we are thinking, outright question puts people on the spot, i love how against history, supporters and power he still asks the question, what a guy.
MrBlaugeist
My oh my saville was an insight into how evil a so called human can be ..history is littered with these devils , this one supported by the BBC
Daniel Kitts
Louis seems to be skirting around the issue, like he’s hiding something
Gina G
I like Louis & his documentary,s but when it comes to his opinion on the whole Jimmy saville situation & wether or not he precured children for powerful people like the royals ,i don’t buy his take on it ,he didn’t get it it right the first time & nothing has changed ..
JulianPerrisMusic
Haut de la Garenne and Ted Heath are just two reasons why he’s wrong about Saville’s crimes. He absolutely was connected to the very top of society.
BaronUnderbite
Mark Thompson, the guy who covered for Saville during his time in the BBC, is now the head Editor of the New York Times….
BARRY
Savile probably took part in human sacrifice as well so a lot of victims never survived therefore we never knew more about the top of the pops stuff.
Xt007
Seems like Louis whole MO on the saville thing here was to downplay the BBC turning a Blind eye and wrap it up as closed because he was a loner. Slipping in the good things he did.
Stu b
Louis is an honest man. Rare in his working circles.
Diane Webb
A nurse who saw his crimes went to a national newspaper but they did not have the courage to get the story out there.
Head Holidays Inc.
I’d wrote in also. I wanted to sing with the Bay City Rollers (just kill me), I dodged a bullet there. Louis should have done Lemmy Killmister, now that would have been great viewing, and more deserving no doubt.
sifting tru the shit
Theroux is great with words but there is no way in hell does he actually beleive saville had friends in high places not pulling strings for him n vise versa….
Jazztheglass
The BBC gave him the key to the door, they enabled him
Ronnie Nose
Would’ve loved to have seen him do a documentary on Lemmy.
Madheremadthere
Yep, Louis does great documentaries but he is not getting involved in this one. Anyone around Saville during those “more active” years knew about his deviant ways. Yes, Louis, you could have done more about Saville, and chose to look the other way. Disappointing.
Maltese Tony
@19:52 – Re Savile’s charity work: he raised an estimated £40m for charity over 40+ years. That was a fortune back then.
Paul Martin
🤔Think Louis is being simplistic about his relationship with those in power. Very few celebrities have ever had those kind of links…
Tony Haven
3:13 the craziest thing is we have a current sitting President of the United States with videos exactly like that with under aged girls, and there’s nothing inquired! We’ve learnt nothing

Shame Louis didn’t interview Keir Starmer about why he threw the case out when he headed the CPS.
Alex Campbell
I wish this podcast happened the day after the Eric Gill statue event at Broadcasting House.

You should have asked Johnny Rotten.
merry ol' soul ° Gigglesmith
people think cult leaders are monsters but by definition a cult leader has to be charming to be able to attract people into the cult. all / any human can be manipulated. so i don’t think Louis should carry the weight of the world for a monster.
Meg Wilcox
Dudes, stop trying to finish your interview subject’s sentences, and talking over them. Listen for a second, absorb what’s said, and then follow up on that.

I don’t buy it…everyone in the BBC knew

…….. Louis programs appear very honest & powerful…….. He seems very “naive” & when he finds out “the REAL TRUTH” about one of those who he’s interviewed/ investigated – he comes across as being very “upset that he’d been “taken in” AND well done Louis keep up your excellent work. JMO

Good podcast otherwise great work
Alex Sturgeon
Bernard Manning would of been interesting… Alex Higgins, Oliver Reed, Norman Wisdom to name few would of made interesting episodes.

Oh Louis defending the BBC in the way you have. Blaming the NHS. You’ve just made me feel physically sick.

the one problem that louis has is getting too close to the subjects of his docs
stevenjohnston85
It was the bbc who helped cover it up
Ann Molloy
I’m sick hearing Theroux defending Saville. He was an evil abuser of innocence Theroux is trivialising this aspect. Hearing him in this diminishes Louis.
michael johnson
I have all the Louis Theroux DVDS but i think the Jimmy Savile one was the most interesting
Thomas Lawton
You get someone as great as Louis Theroux on your podcast, then you don’t let him finish his sentence! Or put words in his mouth, so frustrating.

Weird comment from Lawrence “maybe don’t say that because of the Daily Mail”. Basically he’s trying to make a joke about child abuse.

^ ^ I have only got half way through this video and Im starting to feel sick! Jimmy Savile was a truly evil man who used a technique called ” hiding in plain sight” I once met him at Fort William Highland games and he creeped me out after about 30 seconds! I thought …….something no richt aboout this guy . how can Louis Theroux have been so insensitive that he didn t feel it whem Savile more or less admitted that he was a monster? Louis should not feel bad that saville fooled him. Saville fooled a lot of people.

Louis Theroux is like John Oliver’s brother who is actually a journalist, and not a shill for a political agenda
Rai Turner
Louis “I don’t believe he put a Gerbil up his bum” Theroux
Darz K.
That’s funny, Louis was being really professional and not mentioning it was richard gere that stuffed the gerbil up his arse – and then the big tatted guy just blurted it out within half a second. Hahahaha.

Defending the BBC in any way is ridiculous.

His stuff has gone way downhill. I miss his older style docs

If Louis saw posters of Savile on our school walls back in the 80s he’d go ballistic. Mind you his icy leering stare gave us all nightmares.
Paul Burns
God Bless You Louis you have been my favourite reporter for many years 👍 he’s quite odd WTF he was a complete freak Bullets for these freaks how about Princess Charles her to🖕👎

Very disappointing take from Louis, this. Far from convincing.

The big tattooed guy asked the best question at 3:30 or so. Theroux talks too much and makes too many excuses. Not as fun being on the receiving end of the tough questions from poker faced questioners.

Sir James Savile was a cash cow for the BBC and the NHS.
Michael Boyle
Louise should look at the channel 5 documentary, and he’ll see his nephew talking about meeting in a house in London, And the solicitor ringing the journalist about the story the paper was gonna run. I think Louise is caught by the feeling that, he can’t accept that he liked him, and been an investigative journalist he was conned and he doesn’t want to believe he didn’t see through him
jymmy Dkid
Johnny Rotten told us all about him YEARS ago!
macker
Seems a bit to positive about Saville for me
BIG T
Luis seems so on the back foot . He’s acting guilty and guarded . He knew exactly who savile was . Luis not stupid .
Rust Cohle
Louis is a very crafty man, it’s no surprise that he picked Jimmy Saville and Max Clifford for his shows, he always knew the thing with these guys and wanted to make money out of it both in the short and long term, when he says he became a sort of friend with Saville he always kept the camera rolling, the character he plays of nerdy middle class twit belies what a really sneaky individual he really is.
Doctah Love
Of course he seemed to love the local man…they are his unsuspecting victims!

Huge failings are very different from organised cover-up

just remember, Louis Theroux never broke this story and never publicly asked that question, ultimately clandestinely Theroux is as suspicious as Savile.

That’s what you like about Louis. Horrific subject material, but he deals with it with a straight face. Savile was a monster.

People love him. What has he done that’s good? Like the Scientology doc? Is it bette than going clear?
patricia clarke
It seems to me that, despite Jimmy Saville’s bizarre appearance and disquieting mannerisms, and speech, Louis Therox, found Jimmy Saville to be rather likeable and engaging and looked on him as something of a friend but seems to play down, his clearly genial, relationship with Saville. Theroux was taken in and hoodwinked, by Saville’s superficial ‘charm’ and nonchalant persona, but then so were many others, who should have known better, but didn’t!
Lydia Nevins
The subject of Richard Gere and Rod Stewart I remember that… And we never believed it

Why do we never hear about how Saville was a FIXER for other people. How he procured for others deviant natures. It’s only ever about offences relating to him. Nothing ever about the establishment figures who were involved.
Jack Elliott
Just such utterly pointless interjections from Lawrence. Take here for example at 0:55 – what does Lawrence saying ‘to a different level, yeah’ add? it’s literally just repeating Louis’ words and interrupting him, which spoils the flow. There are countless examples of this throughout the podcast. There is an art to listening to a guest. There’s no need to interrupt them when they are speaking, ESPECIALLY when it’s just to repeat what they’re saying. This really spoiled the podcast for me. I’m pleased though the Louis plugged his book Theroux The Keyhole as I’ve now bought it and am enjoying it.
Karen Robertson

Okay, so maybe it’s not just the BBC, basically a state run organisation, but also the NHS, another state run organisation. So basically it’s a problem with state run organisations and the elite generally. I have no problem with that characterisation.
Sean Doyle
WHY DID YOU NOT CONFRONT HIM ?
Macccaaa123
Lawrence is well funny😐
Kel Rogers
You haven’t explained his extraordinary connections, or the depths of them. You’ve glossed over them. Why? Hosting President Nixon in the 1970s, and taking him to visit children’s homes, of all places. His friendship and yacht trekking with Ted Heath over in Jersey, with those poor boys. On back-slapping terms with Prince Philip – he was the only non royal who could drive straight into Buckingham Palace with NO ID or security checks whatsoever. Involved in Middle East peace talks, seriously? Ten Christmases spent with Maggie Thatcher. The list goes on and on… Why did Cameron say he’d seal those Westminster child sex scandal files till 2056? In the “interests of national security”! Saville was a procurer, and some of the bastards he was procuring for are still sitting in parliament as we speak!

sounds like Jimmy Saville was spreading rumors about other entertainers like Rod Stewart and others. When you think about it what better way to bring disrepute into rumors of him being a peodiofile than spreading lots of unfounded sick rumors of others in the industry. One has to remember what Jimmy said” being tricky is better than being smart.”
Cailan Cook
“Maybe don’t point that out because the Daily Mail are waiting on both of them to trip up so that’s worrying…” Are you serious? What kind of narrow-minded logic is that? “X Journalist for paper I don’t like would jump on that accurate criticism so maybe don’t mention it!” — accountability needs to occur whatever bloody newspaper covers it.
David Harrison
wwow..r we really blaming Louis????

The claim that he didn’t bring girls to a second location is patently false. The charges at the girls’ school are all of him taking girls out of the school on trips outside the school and soliciting sex from them in his car or his van. The existence of a private apartment at many of these hospitals also indicates that he had the option of taking children to a secondary private place if he so chose. Here, spontaneous molestation may also be a way to test whether or not particular children put up a fight or report the abuse, or whether or not they draw inwards and blame themselves, the latter being the desirable category for longterm victims. This kind of strategy is common among pedophiles, who often seek out particular psychological traits in their victims that make them less likely to speak out and more easily silenced if they do so. In a letter to Savile, Prince Charles thanks him for providing two assistants. It would be nice to know who those people were and why Charles needed Savile to provide assistants to him.
Harry Marsee
This man WON’T allow anyone to get a word in edgewise. I’m an American and wasn’t even aware of Saville. I’m just amused by the pomposity and arrogance of this man. I tried watching another interview of him and noticed he said, “Me, I, myself” over a dozen times within the first five minutes; so, I decided to watch another, far shorter interview and it’s the same overbearing attitude of self promotion!
MrBlaugeist

So if something such as 6:17 is general knowledge WHY WASNT ANYTHING DONE ABOUT HIM?!
Moon Cat.
Absolute bullshit. Saville wasn’t protecting “higher orders”? How do you think he got away with it for so long ? I’ve never trusted Theroux with this Saville affair. He seems strangely empathetic towards Saville which in turn leaves me feeling strangely very uneasy with Theroux.
Brian Hotaling
Saville made himself the center of attention by have bland people around him

Saville was knighted, did charity work and was a huge narcissistic “virtue signaller”.

The chattering classes expiate their guilt. Jimmy was in plan sight for all. But nothing was done. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Opportunistic offending is a really common type of sexual offending, and it’s easy to the play it off as a joke if anyone objects
Liam Clarke
The BBC pulled an exposé, I think that’s why it gets the bulk of the criticism
Love To Travel
Well done Louis, your acts of contrition appear to have saved you from the wrath of the wokers.

For someone who claims to be fairly god at being emotionless in front of weirdos, soo. As saville came up, he became almost confrontational with his response. Very weird switch up

Strongly disagree. @Annabrees covered this. BBC guilty as HELL. Knew about specifics of Saville, covered it up. People filed charges; charges get dropped. Cops told to back off. Remember, he could walk right into Buckingham Palace, right past the Guards and wave. Friend of Prince Charles and Philip.
CampTUBE 🏕
Sex offenders are very manipulative. They exist because of that. Louis just became another victim of the lies and games these types play. He is a brilliant documentary maker.

Why is he still defending the BBC?
Leonardo Andwelio
He stuttered too much for me… knows more
Phil RIta
I like LT – I do think though that he is too quick to dismiss the possibility of JS supplying kids to the ‘elite’ – surley a more understandbale answer was to say ‘I have no idea ‘. In rebutting that he wasn’t “a crappy” DJ but an accomplished broadcaster etc he misses the point somewhat that Brian is making: how did a working class minor celeb get to mix with the senior politician in the UK for so long(Thatcher; 11 or so consecutive New Years with her at Chequers) become the confidante of the future king of England and be a palce regular for decades and even get to speak to the Knesset? How? What was the reason? Why did his barbaric abuse go on for so long when showbiz types knew of it for years? If he doesn’t want to speculate just say so. Don’t minimize the connections. No mention either of the Ripper relationship or the Bible John murders in Glasgow in the 60’s.

He always goes after easy targets.

He took him to a pizza resteraunt and told him he could go far in his career I believe louis knew and said nothing to further his career or its a massive coincidence

Juke Box junkie
Cliff Richard wink wink

Is he trying to justify his ignorance? He clearly says he ‘heard’ about Savile when he was 14yrs old but brushed it off like rumors of Rod Stewart getting his stomach pumped. Everybody knew that Stewart rumor was BS. How can it be compared to Saville’s rumors. Looks to me like Louis is trying to make excuses for himself.

I say good for Jimmy. He had a fun life, did what he wanted. It was his personal choice – who are we to judge?

He was hoodwinked by Saville. So much for his documentary-making skills. Very overrated BBC luvvy. A docu maker’s first task is to uncover and deliverc the truth and he failed to, He got taken for a ride. He was naive. So he didn’t do his job. No excuses. Just more self-congratulatory hype from a now dying Beeb. LT is not a good documentary maker.

The inane interjections of these two clowns are extremely irritating and ill informed, and their questions lack substance and direction. Compared with the superbly subtle interview style used by thier subject, this pair are distinctly amateur. Fortunately for them, Louis is an excellent and articulate speaker and makes them appear better interviewers than they actually are

This isn’t so bad (the interview), but some of these people that talk about savile after everything…a lot of them are sp full of it. Not the victims, I’m talking about the high profile people such that knew him and say things like ” I had a feeling or he said this once and I never put two together”….they all want to act like either they didn’t know or say something a long the lines like i tried asking etc.

The things that have come out about Saville are a disgrace. No one should say even one good word about him. I don’t like the way he’s trying to still make him sound like he wasn’t too bad. There are even theories that he killed with the Yorkshire ripper.

Hate to say it. This guy was out of his depth with Savile. He himself was basically groomed during that documentary. Would Louis peddle his bike around an empty room saying ‘my friend jimmy- you can stay at my house anytime’ or whatever he said at the time. I doubt it.
steven black
Can the gordie guy stop filling in the words, and listen
Vianna (DaLilVivi)
Not being funny Louis but of course Seville wouldn’t of done anything in front of you, he always would put his fake act on! Like he always did whenever he was questioned in interviews, he denied all allegations ffs! Not meaning to get frustrated but it’s because I’m myself a victim of sexual abuse from childhood, so I’m just being passionate! Unfortunately victims will still be bashed for telling their truths so it’s extremely important that we stand up to this sorta stuff and get justice! As much as possible at least 💖 my grandmother on her deathbed finally admitted that she was horrendously sexually abused in childhood when she lived in foster care, it was in a big house just south of London and she said powerful figures would visit there often! I believe my grandmother because I’ve heard this sorta thing would happen allot in the old days to a hell of allot of children. It breaks my fckin heart to bits! 😢 I wish I could of been there for my grandmother more now…
