Conman: The life and crimes of Mark Acklom – Blog

reenougle
I am always amazed when people believe someone who says he is a spy or CIA. NO ONE, I emphasize, NO ONE will admit being a spy to an acquaintance or even a spouse. People will always believe what they need to hear. So heartbreaking.
christine beames
The truly appalling thing is not the con man , but how our justice system failed his victims repeatedly ,
S K
These types of documentaries should be shown in classroom around the world as cautionary tales. Real life skills which could save a lot of grief, your life savings and possibly your life.
Lisa Mcdonald
There is always a “cash flow problem”. My former husband was conned by a series of “international businessmen” in the late 80s. In the end, it cost him his career, family and more. Fortunately, we both survived and life went on, but it was devastating.
Renaye Brown
I scare myself with these stories to remind myself of how close I came to being conned by someone years ago. The money doesn’t compare but a working class person who was working for myself at the time, had I not considered the unflattering possibility that someone I’d done contractual work before might be setting me up for a con, I likely would have found myself in serious financial and legal trouble. Scary stuff.

Lterg Ilywamb
How dreadful for Carolyn Woods to have been so conned. It must have been devastating to have lost her heart to such a skilled manipulative con man and been fleeced financially, socially and so humiliating. I am so sorry for all the victims.
ABSOLUTELY FREE STOCKSHOTS
Just imagine what he could have achieved with his power of persuation if he would have done things legally.
veaudor
There’s something missing here. Why would the teacher give a student, a minor, such a sum? Also, I wonder what kind of relationship they actually had. How did the parents not see the charges on their credit cards? Where were his parents when he was jet-setting around? Didn’t they notice his absence? I believe, his parents may have created their own monster.
Poppy Field
Wow what a dangerous psychopath – truly amazing how this man can fool those highly intelligent business people and the police and detectives in all those countries!! For all the wrong he has done, his prison sentences are totally ridiculous. I feel so sorry for all those people he ripped off.
Elle Belle
“a man of great presence and charisma” … So grateful I did not have to be the victim of such a person and know that in my older years I now have the wisdom to see the potential shallowness and narcissism of such people.
Martina Plaschka
So let me get this straight – secret agents tell everyone that they’re secret agents, right?
ivanauker132
Feel so sorry for all the victims but especially the lady who lost her 750k.
GRP Lining Services
Defraud a woman of £750,000 and police take no action. Miss a council tax payment and in come the bailiffs next day.
Gary McKinnon
“Some people would say that he’s a sociopath but i say that he’s a heartless, wicked scoundrel who cares about nobody’s feelings but his own.” Same thing.
Robert Stewart
His dad must have had an amazing credit limit on his gold card. Jets, hotels… and what bank would give a boy a half a million pound mortgage? Some of these things just don’t add up
Tearitloose Tearitloose
Why didn’t he go and get a job in the banking sector? He’d be ripping people off legally and getting well paid to do so.
*POW* PunkOnWhiskey
How awful to use someone’s emotions for financial gain. Love, hope, trust, dreams…. All the most sincere emotions being used against his victims. I feel so bad for victims of this kind of emotional molestation. It’s just not humane to use anyone, let alone to this degree. Losing marriages, family, businesses, all to fund a conman. Awful stuff.
Marian Hanson Counselling Service
I’m listening to Carolyn and can’t believe she believed absolutely everything he said. It’s not a natural inclination not to question anything l. I disagree with the expert.
Haya Glamazon
He has zero conscience. Stealing his father’s credit card, ruining his parents. Disgusting.
Fiona Cahill
This man , and his wife too , have no shame. I couldn’t forgive a man for doing such low acts , it’s one thing to defraud credit companies but the individuals he faked personal relationships with & the family members he has left destroyed are a totally other thing . Dangerously lacking in morals I wouldn’t have that man near me if I were his wife. In my book, that is beyond forgiving.
Don Diego
There needs to be a film made about the methods that these people use. Because people have tried to cut us in our business many times. And they use basically the same modus operandi. The public needs to get hip to these things.

Dougie Roberts
Maybe I am missing something but if it’s clear where he has obtained his wealth from, and how, why aren’t the legal authorities recovering the money he has conned from people and returning it to them ? It seems to me the legal authorities are encouraging this type of crime because ultimately they get away with it. Crazy.
CJ Green
My golden rule, which has served me well in life: Question everything and everybody, regardless of who they are or how credible they seem.
kukuakukua
Even the judicial systems in all these countries couldn’t keep this guy out of the streets and kept slapping him on the wrist with supper short jail times. Unbelieveable
Harry Kemp
The most important thing here is the rich and powerful, and those with an exciting life tend to keep quiet about it. The fraudsters are the ones who will try to convince the rest of us of how successful, etc. they are so the can take our money. Thanks for posting !
Dark Knight 13
I find it odd that neither Martin Brunt nor the former detective were able to obtain a comprehensive breakdown of Acklom’s Spanish criminal activity,it would be relatively uncomplicated to search court records and archived Spanish press reports.
Todd Hellyar
Dear gold diggers, if a bloke says he is in an intelligence service, then, they are not in an intelligence service
Giselle Hedman
I get amazed on how come a criminal can change his name so easily. It just helps him to continue his tracks in crime. He deluded everybody, and in a deal with the prosecutors, from 20 charges he plaided guilty in 5. Because he had served already some time, he got a very short time in jail. Incredible.
SomaliBih
Instead of sentencing him to jail they should force him to pay back everyone that he owes money to.
E.A Weaver
I’m amazed at how willing people are to part with their money.
flash kraft
Imagine what he could have achieved if he worked within the bounds of reality.
Beach Addict
Most sociopaths come from a household with no affection, but unfortunately some people are just born to be one.
I am a Creator
This guy went to one of the best con schools on the world. A boarding school where student are programmed at the subconscious level on how to be a narcissistic, psychopathic, social-vampire.
Terence Hennegan
It truly is amazing how a very intelligent lady can be taken in by Acklom, however, she is a brave courageous women to articulate her experience with that fiend.
nichegoseberazdvatri
What’s more sad is the wife left that businessman when he became a victim of fraud. I stopped believing in “through thick and thin, sickness and health” phrase a long time ago. Time and time it proves means nothing to fools who really don’t love.
Gail Hickman
What an astounding story! Well done Mr. Brunt.
SYED IMRAN ALI
I am convinced beyond a shred of doubt that the so-called ‘justice system’ is broken beyond hope
Rachel
Really enjoy these con man exposed stories. 👍 So many people want to believe the cons. Sad 😞 for all the victims
villagelightsmith
People like this should be addressed watched; monitored, and eliminated from among us early in life.
Pete Mullen
This man is clearly very highly intelligent, for him to work all these business deals out and con people just imagine if he put all that energy into running his own legitimate businesses he would be a multimillionaire no doubt ,instead of deceiving people and ending up in prison. Truly amazing How a person like this throws it all away when he could be right up there with the best.
Katie Perry
He should have been locked up for the rest of his life!!! The punishment he got was a joke. He will be out and conning people all over again. What justice is there!!!
LifeInPink999
When someone commits a crime but is so good on scheming and deceiving time after time without getting caught and if so get’s his way about clicky I can’t stop myself from admiring this ability while feeling sorry for the family and the rest of the people he wronged but man this guy is a genius sadly he uses it for wrongdoing.
Three Thrushes
Mark Acklom would have thrived in the corporate world! Missed his calling.
Sayyad Ali
The law is a joke, he should’ve got life in prison for all the lives he destroyed
Herlina Arief
Somehow i always love this kind of journalism activity. Just like detective work, but with this kind in-depth journalism u have opportunity to explain n describe to your readers
Riley Hoffman
PTSD, here. I was scammed two years ago. Lost a lot, not everything, but I’m still dealing with the fallout. And the emotional toll will be ongoing, it changed my entire world-view in a way I’m not happy with. Be cautious; get it in writing; have it verified by an independent.
Michael Boyers
His wife is an accomplice why was she not arrested and their funds seized and distributed back to the victims it shows how corrupt the law actually is
The Stream of Life
Unfortunately ☹️ I learned this a bit too late ….but now I’m over all my personal experiences of cons….I feel very much for the lady in this video …. Carolyn
Mac
I was hooked when the voice said it was a Martin Brunt documentary. He’s smart, accurate and a “no nonsense” reporter.
freemindthinker ezrapound
As Orwell said it’s easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled
Quokka Pirquish
I feel sick to my stomach, how Carolyn Woods must be feeling. She’s an incredible person to have not let it finish her off, she’s got that elegance and spirit about her. The Swiss guy he took for 400k was very cool too, must be very rich.
Otto72ish
He was the year below me at school in the 80s. Conned teachers, his parents and banks out of loads of money even when he was 17! Too many stories to tell here.
Hannah Anderson
5 yrs for lifelong crimes, good grief this is beyond sad.
Truth is Peace
Never judge a book by its cover…….why on earth do people associate good looks and charm with decency and morality?…..
Oldbatwit
I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the guy who lent 400,000 Euros to someone he only ever talked to over the phone.
AK Blades Official
In my country, we get a life sentence for thinking about stealing that amount of 💰. This man been in and out of jail… What a joke
manic hairdo
How come his father didn’t have his stolen card stopped? That perplexes me.
Fabric
“Sent away to board at public school” OK so that’s where he learned how to be such a great conman.
Steven Parkes
He should have had a career in politics
John do
The teacher was not an victim of Mark but a victim of his own greed. Greed the food conman live off.
Do we really treat psychopaths in a hospital? They can see the misery they cause and all they feel is ‘ah, so what’
Sad because this guy is obviously smart, savvy and charming enough to get far in life legally but he obviously gets a thrill from conning people and/or ruining people’s lives.
Once again we see the British justice system in all its glory
Light penalties leave dirtbags without fear. The stolen AmEx card was NOT the first incident. This began waaay earlier. Shame on his parents.
An old man like this one fooled me out of my condo. he then threw away everything in my condo aswell, al the furniture and everything, leaving me homeless on the street. That was in 2007, I havent had anywhere safe to live since and although he was sentenced in court, he to this day havent paied me back the almost one million he owes me. That condo was given to me by my grandfather to make sure I had a safe home bc I am very sick.. This stress this is causing me have made me even sicker. Psychopaths should be jailed for life because they destroy the lives of innocent people.
mycat1064
OMG DID THE MOTHER REALLY SAY THAT IN THE BEGINNING, “he had a forceps birth that could have contributed to hi behaviors”. Nooooo he’s just evil.
Crystal Clarke
My mother was a con woman and never served a day in prison. She was worse than this guy .
Fishponds Fox
I really hope that nice things will happen for Carolyn Woods , I hope she finds true happiness in her life and can put all of this behind her !
Brandi Guarino
This is so heartbreaking!
Jane E Smith
After my divorce in my early 50s, I took a spin on a matchmaking site. First match was with my ex-husband. Really. Then the military men started flowing in. Special ops, CIA, FBI…I have two sons in the military. Anyone who does work like these does not advertise it.
Loulou66
With as many convictions and prison sentences he received, was he really as good as people say, or were his victim’s just greedy, easily manipulared fools?
Whol3NothaL3v3l
Yeah, I’m not gonna count that teacher as a victim. I don’t care if he was 40 when he went to that school. Its stupid for any teacher to give any student of any age money to play the stocks for him. That teacher tried to take advantage.
Paolo M.
The staggering size of the brass balls on him to ask the reporter/Sky investigating him for fraud for a loan of money for his appeal! LOL
Raymond Caylor
” I’m a secret agent but don’t tell anyone “. Yeah that makes perfect sense Not trying to blame the victim just trying to point out the absurdly of becoming the victim
Girl101
He should have been a male escort for desperate older posh rich women, he would’ve made a mint and it’s similar to what he was doing anyway, sleeping with women and charming them to get what he wants. Also he was attractive and could talk the talk, complete sociopath I think but a non murderous one. The woman telling the story is also very attractive looking, she looks confident, intelligent, classy etc and still she was fooled. This is because Mark knows his marks type all too well, he has studied them and knows how to pull the perfect con
Marc Draco
Acklom’s victims are often motivated by greed. It’s hard to feel bad for some of them.
J.J Whitty
One of my Golden Rules is to never part with more money than I can afford to loose. The only people I truly feel sorry for are his family regarding everyone else it reminds of the old proverb that goes something like ….. After a rich person gets rich their next ambition is to get even richer.
Glenice Crease
I liked when he introduced himself as ‘Mr Conway.’. His teenage spree using his dad’s gold credit card was amazing! Were there no protections for the owner of stolen card in those days? Why was the card not frozen? He must have hated his family to do that to them.
Samantha Esra
So many people are like him and never get caught. So many people lie about who they are and what they do.
Yve From The Heart
As with all ongoing abuses of whatever kind, the perpetrator gets away with it because of a lack of information sharing with various agencies, overly-lenient sentencing, and in this case being impressed when someone is well-spoken and educated.
Cabronosidad
How many lives have been ruined by this psycho? He should be put down.
Reginald Graves
An investigation into his murder would be difficult, the motive would be easy but the number of suspects would be huge.
Juuso Hämäläinen
What a great professional. A real business talent.
J Huntoon
Useless justice system, a huge problem for the public 😡
Holly IsAlwaysHopeful
He is smart, charismatic and good at what he does, he could absolutely make 💰 legally! So cruel!
Solitaire Burton
Once a conman always a conman. It is in the genes.
Mark Roberts
The moral of the story is greed by the conman and greed for more wealth by the recipients.
tomaz vibe
This guy, with the business mind he has, could have been a multimillionaire cleanly. But clearly for him theres something sexy about doing it his way. Its a thrill for him.
Baron Vestides
He seems to sniff out greed and naivety among the rich.
miker
Poor woman thats hell of a lot to loose and the stress. At the same time ,how can anyone be so gullable 🤦‍♂️
Tom G
This man ain’t never gonna get any peace until he makes up for what he’s done and stops running away. Karma is real. I pray for all involved.
Oliver YT
This is damn interesting. Unfortunately it’s also damn real… and I feel kinda bad for the victims… People love the illusion too much (like that lady in the boutique). Unfortunatelly. That’s where psychopaths can play out their cards. Greetings from Germany.
mrrichard57000
I m sure he hurts a lot off people like Caroline, in the end his world is going to be to small and gets hurt himself. He must be a narcissistic sick person to do all of this, think he’s sick…
Christina Massey-Stucki
Well, well, my advice to the victims is: Do not fall for confident people with a ‘good impression’. Sometimes, the social outcasts and awkward might be the better choice? Choosing such ‘cool’ narcissists is a reflection of own narcissism, greed and need to the special attention. Makes me so angry, there’s hard working nice and genuine people who get treated like door mats, bu5 those glitzy con artists seem to impress. 😡😡
Trisha Walsh
I loved it when he asked if sky could pay his appeal money 💰😂 with the promise of not running away ever again then let out on temporary appeal and legs it…again 😂
Mandy Hobson
I’m sorry a bank gave a teenager £500000 mortgage??? What bank, they should be fined and fired
John Smythe
There seem to be so many people just like this guy. There seems to be no one closing them down since many of them are big businesses.
Spencer Pierce
This guy would never have gotten away with this in the states. Somebody would had taken him out by now.
funsweed
One of his teachers gave him 15k pounds  and never saw his money again , yikes , think the teacher should go to school
His little Mrs.
Why don’t the police act when notified of criminal activity? The victims seem to be ignored.
JoanneLG1960
Who rents jets multiple times to a teenager just because they have Daddy’s credit card?
Steve 68
I was conned some 35 years ago as a young soldier traveling to Germany for my first posting. I stood at exit of London Kings cross figuring how to get to Hendon for an overnight stay before catching a flight in the morning. A man approached me asking if I had change of a £20 note I opened my wallet to help him out. He got talking saying he was a army sergeant based in Germany invited me to a nearby snack shop for a chat. Inside sitting we got a coffee and he pulled out a pack of cards. Long story short he fleeced me of the £65 I had in my wallet I guess a lesson learned for a naive 17 year old out in the big wide world count myself luck compared to some of the poor victims on here!
Waasae Ayyaz
His dad must have had an amazing credit limit on his gold card. Jets, hotels… and what bank would give a boy a half a million pound mortgage? Some of these things just don’t add up
WVDM70
“I believe my life could be in danger there” I really hope someone is willing to end this shitshow.
Eddie Lavelle
The best bit was when he wrote to the journalist ‘Ask Sky to lend me £30,000 and I’LL PAY THEM BACK’ 😂😂😂
Joe
Rule #1 of the secret agent school Don’t tell people your a secret agent Cause it wouldn’t be a secret anymore
snakechrmr
“He stopped taking her calls” That doesn’t sound like “slowly began distancing himself” from her.
Whol3NothaL3v3l
Hint: Most, actual rich people DO NOT walk around overly dressed to go shopping. So the designer suit, shades, and whatever else was a clue that something was amiss. And then when he came up with the secret job… Poor thing, she wanted to be in love so bad.
Janetta Wallace
I can not understand how anyone who knows nothing about one and give them that kind of money taking their story. He got serious problems. His job is a serious thief. His mind is constantly planning how to get over. His occupation and he is very intelligent doing it. Law enforcement need to keep him behind bars. Same things happen over and over.
strongium9900
Why would they give him such small sentences. Lock him up for 20 years at a time. If he is put away for long periods of time he will get tired of spending so much time.
stephen osborne
He’s pretty much just a more successful version of anyone in the modern world
Florence deBear
Their son was out of control? Just block the damn credit card!
BVB BVB
She said : ”He was extremely well dressed and looked wealthy”. thats all it takes to make a woman fall for a man lol. SMH
J H
If he had become a politician I think he probably would have made it to Prime Minister!
Joe Bloggs
Incredible! The gift of the gab these types have… And how trusting people are to believe him…
a531
A famous conman once said, an honest person can’t be conned.
Sadiya Saleh
He had a very difficult birth, was bruised and battered, the first experience he had at life. He is not a psychopath,he is a wounded soul, afraid and insecure hence using all sorts of ways to get over life. His subconsciousness is his tormentor. This documentary is intentionally misleading, something’s just doesn’t add up.
Leslie Curran
He could have used that charisma and smarts to do legitimate business. What a waste of a life.
James B Shanelle
He looks a little bit like a rat crossed with a human. I sincerely hope the poor victims recover from this rodent. 🐀🐀🐀
tellurye
In that day an age of when this happened, the fact that she fell for the “im a secret agent” bit is ridiculous! She deserved everything she lost.
tauresa ttauresa
Poor naive and gullible woman.
dis traktor
“Women are obviously susceptable to his charisma.” It is more likely that only SOME women (and men) are susceptible. At least half of his brilliance lay in sniffing out the weak and passing over anyone with a slightly raised eyebrow.
chocksaway100
Big deal far larger frauds than Ackloms are commited regularly by financial institutions, goverments, charities, Acklom offered an interesting emotional story that was easy to investigate and made pots of cash for the production company.
Zoey Zi
I always thought I was some kind of criminal until I woke up to my real life and bing gangstalked…..those people are the true psychotic sadistic criminals
skdkskdk
How on earth do they issue passports in a new name to someone who is on their most wanted list
Nostromo
Never lend money. I’m sorry dont care how much I was in love, once he said MI6 I would have smelled a rat but I’m not a very trusting person anyway!
Max Mason
This guy is nothing. My cable provider is the biggest con on the planet.
Stephanie K
Wow…what a fabulous ending, after, “So, beware…!”, when he turns and looks directly into the camera, so that we see his eyes and face.
Anna Dembowska
Sometimes is to good to be true ♥️
Neal Beard
How good is he as a con artist? He keeps getting caught.
Duck.
If only he had channelled all those wonderful gifts to help and teach people.
Mairead Ryan
The Law has been amazingly lenient with this fraudster and so many others. Does not inspire confidence in the Law, does it?
Steven Angus
HES NOT A SUPER CONMAN ??? IF HE KEEPS GETTING CAUGHT AND JAILED
LayneLee @LPSSPURS
Fair play to him having the balls to do all that
Francis Abernathy
Poor Carolyn but we need to realise that its unlikely that a multi-millionaire talented handsome man is going to walk into our path. So unlikely. I sympathise with her of course. Its easy to fall in love when everything we ever wanted appears to have arrived.
Annamarie Lewis
How does he keep getting bail⁉️His history should preclude ever letting him out, period.
R G
He would of made a terrific politician but unfortunately he just missed his calling.
Larry Ranney
He should work for the Federal Reserve here in the U.S.
Michael John Scott
He’s a lightweight, the real pros are; Bankers, IMF, Central Banks, BIS & our leaders! 🙂
Ben72
I’m looking forward to the next in the series.. Conman: The life and crimes of Rupert Murdoch.
lucky13
this guy will be out in 2yrs.. with all them millions he has hidden its worth the prison time.. a very clever man indeed. he will be out and free and be rich
Powerneck 500
Brilliant documentary 😊
imcreps
He’s got all the characteristics of a “successful” BANKSTER .
Stephen Thomason
Good instructional video for those up and coming con men…it amazes me that these guys get so much fame, these things do not fix anything…think about it! I’m just saying!
Peter Pluim
Imagine how good a politician he could have been. In 2019, he would have been prime ministerial material.
Michael W. LeMaster
Brilliant Detective work. Well done. 👍
Don Gargon
He should’ve just opened up a payday loans business they are no different and legal
Zartelle Rose
Mark is not smart or a “sick” man or anything close to even a con man. he is a monster. period.
Jane Smith
I know the three-strikes law in the US has lots of problems, but the basic idea is demonstrated in this case. This guy has been sentenced three times for fraud. Clearly he’s never going to stop and should therefore go to prison for life.
Maury Ginsberg
I think there is something mentally wrong with this type of conman. They will do this even when they know they have left enough evidence that will get them caught. They could easily run a straight business but instead choose to live out fantasy and do not move beyond short term gain.
Helen Richardson
I like ackolins mum she’s open and down to earth , though I guess she doesn’t have to be more so it being her son who’s the course of being such trouble and hurt to herself and others .
Fiona Gregory
He was a barista, not a barrister.
Steve Vassallo
With the exception of the poor woman, victims of this POS we’re clearly motivated by greed and as, such don’t deserve pity.
Martin Hayles
I knew Carol Vorderman would be mentioned when ‘celebs’ were mentioned.I truly believe she would do anything for anyone for money
Christopher Scallio
An Investigative Journalist/Private Detective ought to be all over him when Marc Acklom is released. He will continue on larger than ever.
Nathalie Dufour
Awful . He is a sociopath. Should be locked-up in a mental hospital, for the rest of his life.
Dolores Du Bois
None of this would be possible if people simply refused to lend others money without investigating the legitimacy of their reasons, first.
Just a sec
after he finishes his minute long sentence cant they extradite him to spain? cant the victim go after his family’s money? Sick
Garland Remington III
I have three sisters that are not only very good looking but would be considered very well off by any financial measurement. And over the years all three of them have had serious ConMen try to rope them in and they nailed each one of them.
Roland Matters
He would have been quite at home in the City of London or Wall Street where theft on an industrial scale is both lauded and rewarded.
Valerie Mac Fair
Amazing! He must be the reincarnation of Mr. Jingle, a character exactly like him described in Charles Dickens’s “the Pickwick Papers”.
og jenny
What an AMAZING man👏🙌
mike De
And on the 12th of December, millions in the UK, will vote for these sorts of people.
Artemis Zero
He needs to be locked away for 50 years or longer without parole.
gmshadowtraders
Why can’t we hear from the man himself? Would be so interesting to hear things from such an extreme, unfettered perspective.
Lisa
Similar happened to me and I know that it was an expensive lesson but I will never forget the con. Police told me to forget about my situation as same happened to her.
Jonathon Pawelko
There is no doubt that he had some successful cons, but portraying him as this master con artist is a real stretch. The amount of time he was investigated and jailed successively between Britain, Switzerland and Spain is very telling. Acklum is a low end somewhat successful grifter who floated from very basic con to con. I am sure that he has a fairly good ability to spin a reasonable story, but does not have the disciple or desire to pull a long con. As other people have noted, he very much has the characteristics of a minor politician. If he was a politician or a financial advisor and did the same, he would have been considered a success.
Doc 81
This stuff is so common it’s almost a cliche. Always the same : woman manipulated emotionally, the lies so absurd that no sane rational person would believe them. And there’s always the titillating MI6 element. Blame the bad novels that have already programmed them. People like Mark are, unfortunately just players in a sick game of avarice.
S
Sounds mad but there is genuinely more chance of rehabilitating a murderer than a conman. These people need life sentences cos they will literally never stop they are compulsive liars and love living life on the edge.
Rat Keller
I love the justice that acklom’s wife was conning him for four years to make sure he stayed close long enough for the authorities to move in.
Rae Raw
I think twice before even giving a beggar 1 or 2$. I would never give someone my life savings etc. I know they never say never, but NEVER!
M K
He’s not a very good scammer/fraudster. He’s been banged up more times than a german pornstar.
Grace Noah
This man is free to commit crime, he knows that the sentence would be a joke, and it is a joke. This man should get 25 years no parole.
Project Yeti
Fascinating. We can only wonder how many convicts in Wormwood Scrubs have been duped out of their training shoes and roll-ups by him.
Youhaverights Copshaveduties
To the extent of giving him all her money, that is extraordinary! LOL
Mariam A. Ali
Omgeeee the presenter had me cracking with his subtle sarcasm when he read the letters
yojez
Be careful dating above your pay-grade. It ends badly a large chunk of the time
Jo Hanrahan
I cant understand why his sentences were so short He should be locked up for life for all the suffering he has caused !!
Nick Rowsell
There’s no shortage of greedy people and no end of clever criminals who exploit them … no end …
Jo Hanrahan
He is not in love with money hes in love with” the con”
Mel N Tribe
I love the input of this forensic psychologist
J MH
Lol she fell for the classic ‘True Lies’ Bill Paxton “I’m a spy” line 🤣 Hilarious.
Johnny Tequila
If only Brunt was as thorough when it came to the death and coverup of little Madeline McCann
Elizabeth Wallace
Amazing! Wow! A real mastermind, master serpent.
Simon Jones
So he conned that lady out of over £700,000 and got sentenced to a few years in prison for it. Sounds like he has friends in the judicial services
Richard Graham
If she lost everything, who paid for the 4 years of this investigation?
James Graham
This is a classic example of how the criminal justice system, not just in the UK but certainly in most of Europe, fails to protect the public. This man has demonstrated clearly that he is a serial criminal. He needs to be removed from public life for a lengthy period after which he can be released as a minimal threat, that’s to say, until he is at least retirement age, if not permanently. If a member of my family had suffered at his hands, and the law had failed us, I would hunt him down.
Craig Monteforte
Here is some advice when people brag or talk about being a undercover or highly secretive Military personel it’s usually complete B.S. the real people involved in that line of work don’t do that because those trained to do so meet a entirely different Psycological profile than most others years ago I met a guy that had dive flag stickers on his vehicle I myself have been a Certified Scuba Diver since I was 17 years of age with more than 250 logged dives under my belt , the person I met with the dive stickers tried to make me believe he was a Navy Seal but didn’t know or understand the basics of Sport Diving years later I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming freinds with a gentleman who was responsible for setting up the U.S. Navy Seals program and is regarded as one of the Original Founders of the group he was long retired and well respected elderly but never bragged or spoke of his Service unless conducting a formal interview
Roddy McNiven
Skills bro, if he’d been busted for making the same amount of money through drugs he would have got 20 years 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Is there really a point in giving “Psychopaths“ therapy ? If things are working out for them, why would they change ? He’s screwing the system and it seems to be working for him, and I don’t think he cares.
TheBaldricksPlan
White-collar crime is not as severely punished as blue-collar crime. There ought to be triggers based on the amounts of money defrauded and the number of frauds that cause a psychological analysis/assessment. If the result of the analysis is that the person is a career conman then the general public should be protected by jailing him/her for life.
Howard Hill
Lock up this serial conman forever, that’s the only solution.
Phil Porter
Speaking of conning people. How can I con tv companies into thinking that stating the obvious makes me a criminal psychologist?

As a politician he would have been a big player and could have been extremely helpful for the Globalization process 🤗

He fools people who fall for material things, for status, and for looks. It wouldn’t work on someone who wants a quality relationship, with mutual trust, patience, understanding, hard work, etc.

I can’t believe he got such a light sentence . Perhaps he cut a deal, but what could that deal be? He looks a bit like Canadian prime minister J Trudeau .

4 years. Crime does pay
Muscle man
Not exactly ‘super’ if he’s been caught so much. Also, only getting 5 years wasn’t much considering he’s defrauded potentially millions from people. He should have been in parliament where he’d get away with it all
boink800
He sounds like a version of the German conman, ‘Clark Rockefeller’.

He taught him from a very early age that The world is full of dumb people ready to get used by smart people This conman thought “If a full grown educated man is willing to hand over that huge amount of money, imagine what I could do When I grow up”

No one gave him a good reason to quit his con Job. The way the justice system handled his cases helped him make over a hundred thousand easy money every year while sitting in jail.

Why do people label pure narcisist as a person with great precense …??
naejin
When this woman got roped in giving away all of her money & wealth, this reminds me of the psychology when a poker player gets pot committed in a hand of poker. A poker player might wager a little here & there at every bet, but when it gets to the end, the player has found that they’ve already risked so much, they find themselves unable to walk away acknowledging the huge loss, and instead find that it more acceptable to trust that their previous wagers will pay off if they go all in. This is what happened to Mark Acklom’s victims. He simply used this well known poker psychology after he first charmed his victims.
seneca
7:11 – so he was a sociopath then. I don’t understand people’s thought process sometimes. Like somehow being a sociopath excludes him from personal responsibility. What was the point of the policemen’s statement?
Joan Cahill
His mother talking about his birth . My daughter was born the same way ; and she is a gorgeous caring ; honest woman ; would nor defraud anyone ( a sick excuse for a human being ;
Christina Annabel
#1.) Of course, the subject of this story is a psychopath/sociopath. They represent at least 5% of our population, and we must all be cautious when making new acquaintanceships and allowing people into our lives. Countries need to have better laws in place to address illegal and immoral acts of these psycho/sociopaths. For example, if they falsely represent themselves in relationships in order to gain trust and eventually steal from/swindle people, the false representation in and of itself should be a crime, not just the financial malfeasance. #2.) If the man who is investigating this conman was highly professional, he would not have revealed the online alias nickname of private chat rooms, and he wouldn’t need to show himself speaking with her/him in person, nor showed a video of himself with another “mysterious source”.
Redwoods
Difficult birth per mother. Possible brain injury (my speculation). Brain injury is a documented common factor shared by many psychopaths and serial killers.

Conmen can only do what they do if people focus on things like how they speak l, what they wear etc. I’ve never in my life given large amounts of money to anyone, not even my family. Anyone can learn how to tell a story but without seeing anything, why would anyone believe what someone just says? We see what we want to see, hear what we want to hear. There are charming men out there, I agree but we have to learn to be wise. He sounds like a text-book conman with the things he says.

I love these true crime stories , just watched the one about Boris and the new Brexit deal. Lol

So Carolyn Woods gives all her money away to a coworker of James Bond and shares her story on TV? Smart lady.

Carolyn’s intriguing statement is that she saw Acklom walk past two armed guards into the MI6 underground car park. Maybe she just saw what she wanted to see (or was told to expect), but wouldn’t it give pause for thought if he actually did?

jenny_jenny_nc
Never- EVER- give anybody your money. If youre rich or regular . Never do it.
The Powerman
Another demonstration of the superficiality of women, their covetous nature, their love of money. Acklom’s list of easy, female prey shows this. “He was immaculately dressed, designer suit, designer glasses!” she swoons! Note too the poor man at 0:28: “Because we lost money, I lost my family…” The money disappears, so she does as well!
Nita Teri
Carolyn Woods actually believes that a MI5 agent with a, was it Scandinavian?, background, is now working on renovating real estate? What a silly woman! He knew she was desperate to be liked and needed – she actually admits that she told him that she could loan him money from her house sale – and took advantage of it. He is also still very much pulling the wool over his mother’s eyes – there is something just a tad off about her responses and reactions.

Psychopaths are born without feelings. So there’s no point in branding or blaming them. They simply have to be contained since they have no control over their actions. If they do fall in love it would be conditional.

What a clever con — buying an airfield to restore vintage airplanes. The people interested in this would be attracted like filings to a magnet — enthusiastic people with connections who have money. And yet, as long as the sale of the field doesn’t go forward, the con can continue and the con-artist can move among them putting their hands into their pockets.

Unfortunately Conmen are real. And everyone never having met one, can’t make any assumptions about how they are working..and definitely not put blame on the victims 1. They appear to be your prince and they are choosing more drawn back persons, whom they have to convince for a while, because people that open up quickly will not be as attached to someone else, as someone whom it really means something to open up to someone. This is for personal relationships 2. They will choose people, that have not to much , tight family and are maybe a bit lonely… Say not much of a social net to fall back on.. This is for relationships 3. In personal and business relations they will appear independent and more important, valuabe to the other person.. Offering opportunities, being wealthy, beeing admirable 4. They will draw the other person in, by having “short cashflow” problems and the victim will WANT to help out. 5. At the same time, as soon as the person starts imaging a future together, personal or business wise, and the conman starts to take financial, or else advantages even more, the conman confuses his victims with a a fast succession of outrageous lies. The lies have to be so over the top, that normal people don’t dare to question them because they started to trust this really nice, educated , well dressed, obviously successful person and are slightly scared of provoking an argument. 6. The victim starts to feel uncomfortable, but ignores every warning sign because ithas so much invested already, that facing the truth would be unbearable… Often they put in even more money to at least recover a little of the loss, or save the whole business, which is promised by the conman : Yeah, this didn’t work out, but we put in another amount x, and we can do this and that and all will be good! Golden rule of a conman s lie: Outrageous, with a bit of truth.

What did he do with all the money he stole? What was he using it for ?
Nellie G. Cabo
In the end, watching him walking away from inside the court, all I see is a Thin and Malnourished guy who aged because of running left and right away from his Victims. What I could Not understand is the short term that he served in jail for payments of ruining people’s lives.I pray to God and I know it’s wrong for Him to Lead a very Miserable Life ahead until he’s gone away from this face of the earth.
Sue Knoll
Good God, he stole his fathers credit card and went on a massive spending spree finally bankrupting the family, wouldn’t a simple call to the credit card company have put a stop to that? How complicit are the parents in his continued behavior? My credit card company has called me more than once when they noticed an out of character purchase being made, or from a sketchy vendor, they must have been warned.

The documentary is valuable: there really are people like this-I know from personal experience. But the “forensic psychologist” contributes no insight whatsoever.

the reason every woman fell for him is pretty simple… ‘MONEY’ all he had to do was convince them he had plenty an once they’re hooked its easy, looks, reputation all become secondary in effect he played them at their own game

People aren’t conned. People are GREEDY! If people WOULD have made money out of what was promised, NO-ONE would have actually complained… It’s GREED that gets “victims” duped… The hope for making a quick buck for doing nothing… I don’t condone what Mark Acklom had done, but I think people are deluded if they REALLY think they are “victims” instead of “greedy and delusional”…

The prison sentences seem light for the crime .
Jason Pryce-Kennedy
The problem here is that he has not conned the person that would not accept it. If he were to con the wrong person and be subject to a physical beating (a very serious one that would put him in hospital) he would think twice about continuing with this fraudulent lifestyle. I am not condoning a beating but trust me this would resolve the matter for good. His sentencing is so low and does not impact him at all, he plots whilst in prison. Give him a sentence that fits the crime i.e 20 years.
Stan Dance
Not everyone can be conned. Some simply do not play the same game

About the traits in business people and media etc… the people in the restaurant business seem to be the weirdest horniest and narcissistic personalities I’ve ever come across. When I was younger I worked in a couple pizza places, and Italian restaurants. And almost EVERYONE was cheating on one another? I couldn’t wrap my head around how odd and…. made up most if not all the drama connected to people purely lying about what they do… even though they spend most of the time together at those sad places…. gross.

I’m sorry to say this, but most people are emotionally desperate (I used to be) and very gullible (I was indenial for a long time), especially due to technology. It does not take much to persuade most in a direction of your choosing. American politics/media are proof of this on a large scale. I am not saying any of this to dissuade others from trusting, rather a warning to be cautious and do your research. This goes for most situations, most importantly—LOVE. It takes 5 minutes to research a person and a blink of the eye for them to ruin your life. Think for yourselves and listen to your instincts. They are never wrong. Stay safe out there. Sending nothing but love, my friends.
Craig Famly
I wonder if he had received psychiatric help earlier on if he would have turned his life around. Once met a guy went to jail young and told me it was an amazing place to learn how to be a criminal from people who knew what they were on about. Interesting that his mother blames his birth not packing him off to public school. If the work market allowed for ex criminals to move on then maybe he could have made some positive contribution. Also role did the British police play ignoring his victims I wonder?

I feel bad for people who are conned, but I’m shocked that these days, where a google search would divulge so much, that these people didn’t even do a cursory search.

I think it’s ridiculous he stole millions and he only gets a few years here or there in jail. He should get life, or pay the money back. Hes still got some of it hidden somewhere I am sure. Make millions, pay for it by going to jail a few years…it’s like a slap on the wrist. A few years for a few million. its almost encouraging others to do the same thing…just a few years..no big deal..While multiple people’s lives are ruined. He kept repeating himself. He hung up and now i have once again lost my newly found long lost brother. And Abebe Benwabe from Cameroon is holding my 10 million dollar inheritance for me ; I just need $2,000.00 for the legal expenses. I also had a Negro roommate who could get a woman into bed in 5 minutes ; horseshit was not an impediment for Michael Dean , helped by the fact that women have spaghetti for brains.

not victim blaming, but as long as there are gullible people, scammers will always strike. These people have a detector for innocence/ignorance, and a honed instinct for manipulation. They know how to select their targets, attract them, ensnare them and keep them emotionally invested.. they are not so different with PUAs in their approach. It’s good to see that the women involved in this case eventually woke up and even tried to bring the law in on him. But as we can see, the law only has a minimal effect where such cases of personal injury are involved… so it’s still on the population to be aware and guarantee their own safety.
