Andrew Malkinson Vindicated man says police knew withheld evidence was crucial to case
Page Description
A focused look at the Andrew Malkinson case, highlighting key turning points in one of the UK’s most serious miscarriages of justice and his eventual exoneration.
The case of Andrew Malkinson is one of the most significant miscarriages of justice in recent British legal history. Convicted in 2003 of rape and imprisoned for 17 years, his case was built on evidence that later proved to be deeply flawed. Decades later, DNA testing ultimately excluded him, forcing a complete reassessment of how the conviction was reached and why it took so long to correct. This page focuses on the key turning points that defined the case and the critical failures that allowed a wrongful conviction to stand for so long.

Rapist jailed for 24 years after innocent man served nearly two decades for his crime
5 jun 2026 #Manchester #Crime #UK
A rapist who let an innocent man serve nearly two decades in prison for his crime has been sentenced to 24 years in jail at Manchester Crown Court.
Paul Quinn, 52, was found guilty in April this year of raping a woman in 2003 after advances in testing meant that a billion-to-one match of his DNA profile was made with saliva left on the victim’s vest top.
Andrew Malkinson, who was previously wrongly convicted and served 17 years in jail, said all those responsible for “allowing this dangerous man to wander free” must be “held to account”.

Brutal rapist FINALLY jailed after man was wrongfully imprisoned for 17 YEARS
6 jun 2026 #uknews #ukcrime #crime
An evil predator has been jailed for the brutal 2003 rape of a woman for which an innocent man was wrongfully convicted and jailed for 17 years.
Vile Paul Quinn, 52, was caged for 24 years yesterday for the savage beating and rape that was wrongly blamed on Salford man Andrew Malkinson. He was incorrectly picked out at as the attacker in an identity parade, and in 2004, a jury convicted him solely on the basis of eyewitness accounts.
In April, jurors at Manchester Crown Court convicted Quinn of rape, grievous bodily harm, and attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle with intent.
The victim, a mother-of-two – hailed as a hero by sentencing judge Mr Justice Bright today – was walking home along Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, near Salford, in the early hours of July 19, 2003. The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was dragged down an embankment by Quinn where she was beaten, raped and strangled.

Rapist Paul Quinn who BRUTALLY attacked woman before watching innocent man ROT in jail LOCKED UP
5 jun 2026 #uknews #crime #jailed
A rapist who watched on as an innocent man served 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit has finally faced justice.
Andrew Malkinson spent 17 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of the brutal rape and attack of a 33-year-old mother-of-two as she walked home in the early hours of July 19, 2003.
The woman was followed and then dragged down a motorway embankment off Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, Salford, near the M61, where she was viciously attacked and raped.
Despite no DNA evidence linking Mr Malkinson to the notorious crime, he was prosecuted and convicted after the woman said she had been ‘100 per cent’ sure that he was the perpetrator.
In 2004 at Manchester Crown Court, Mr Malkinson received a life sentence and was ordered to serve at least seven years behind bars. But he remained in prison until 2020, as he maintained his innocence and tried to lodge appeals to clear his name. He was only cleared in 2023.
On Friday (June 5), at the same courthouse, Quinn, 52, received an extended sentence for public protection, comprising of 21 years in prison and an extra three years on licence.
He will serve two-thirds of the 21 year sentence before he can be considered for release by the Parole Board. In April, following a trial, he was found guilty of two counts of rape and well as inflicting GBH and a charge of attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle with intent.
